To say that the beginning of the Stanley Cup playoffs was crazy would be an understatement. Five periods of overtime in the matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Columbus Blue Jackets had players putting up record stats all over the place. Seth Jones played over 60 minutes and Joonas Korpisalo made a whopping 85 saves. Even the losing goalie racked up the fantasy points in a way most skaters can only dream of.
Today’s free sleeper pick is a different center between Taylor Hall and Phil Kessel. For a paltry price you can have Christian Dvorak ($4,600). The Coyotes will be looking to do early damage to the Colorado Avalanche which is one of the most feared teams in the league. Don’t count them out, though. This is their first playoff appearance in several years and they are going to be making the most of it.
Goaltending DFS Picks For August 12, 2020
Braden Holtby ($7,800) had a lackluster regular season but has been turning it around just in time for the playoffs. He knows how to show up on the biggest stage having won the Stanley Cup only two seasons ago. He wants to sign a big juicy contract (likely not in Washington) when this is all done and the results here will determine what he makes in the future. We feel confident he will prove all the doubters wrong.
It is going to be a tight matchup between the Flyers and the Canadiens with two top goalies in net. For our money today we are giving the edge to Carter Hart ($8,000). The biggest difference here is going to be the goal support from an offensively potent squad. Expect some highlight reel plays from these guys tonight.
Center DFS Picks For August 12, 2020
Most of today’s advice is ways to save money to afford Nathan MacKinnon ($8,500). It’s not exactly a hot take to pick MacK but he is on a different level than all the other players out there. He is able to put the game on his back and skate around or even through defenses with ease. Sometimes you have to spend big to win big.
Winger DFS Picks For August 12, 2020
We want you to pay attention to one of the up and coming left wings in the game. Jakub Vrana ($4,700) is the real deal and is quickly making his way up the Capital’s depth chart. In the regular season he scored 25 goals but has so far managed to stay pointless in the round robin. He is due and comes at a low enough price that a guy playing with big man Tom Wilson and sneaky Russian Evgeny Kuznetsov will be poised to do some damage to the Islanders.
Alongside one of our favorite picks in Kevin Hayes and underrated winger Scott Laughton you will find Travis Konecny ($5,700). Another young gun who signed a nice long deal this season is showing why the Flyers are paying him the big bucks. At nearly a point per game as a 23 year old it is not hard to see all the promise he holds. Look for that line to continue on their hot streak as they take on the Montreal Canadiens.
Defencemen DFS Picks For August 12, 2020
Who are we to say no to a good deal? If Quinn Hughes ($5,200) remains undervalued we will continue to stick with him. The Canucks are up against a juggernaut in the St. Louis Blues but they have looked weak to begin this playoff run. Vancouver has a slate of youngsters with an eye for the net and Hughes is their setup guy.
Continuing with Avalanche that are hard to stop we have the other Calder level defenseman Cale Makar ($6,000). He made his debut in the playoffs last year before his rookie season and showed why he was a top pick in the first round of the draft. With a full season under his belt he is ready to make waves and we are here for it.
Avoid DFS Picks For August 12, 2020
There seems to be a trend in hoping that Matt Barzal ($6,500) becomes an elite player and it may happen at some point. He is a very talented center at only 23 years old but he is up against the Washington Capitals and has not hit his peak yet. We think $6,500 is a bit too high right now but will be keeping our eye on him as he continues to progress.
Keep having fun and get ready for all the action tonight. It won’t disappoint.
