NHL DFS Picks For March 9, 2021

Austin Matthews DFS
TAMPA, FL - DECEMBER 13: Toronto Maple Leafs center Austin Matthews (34) reaches for a puck on the boards during the third period of an NHL game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 13, 2018, at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. (Photo by Roy K. Miller/Icon Sportswire)

Tonight’s marquee matchup will be the Winnipeg Jets vs the Toronto Maple Leafs. Both teams have had a tough couple games and one of them is going to continue their winless streak. Connor Hellebuyck got pulled in his last game and Auston Matthews has not scored in three games. Tune into this one because it should be fun no matter the outcome. Let’s see if we can figure out who will benefit the most.

Here’s a tasty lineup For DFS Hockey 3/9/21 (using DraftKings Values)

CenterA. Matthews $9,200
Center  $4,200
WingM. Marner $7,700
Wing  $5,100
Wing  $2,800
Defense  $5,700
Defense  $4,700
GoalieNedeljkovic $8,000
Utility  $2,600

Auston Matthews wrist injury is something that we hope does not become a lingering issue but he seems intent on playing through right now. The Leafs are a deep enough team without him but he certainly is still the star of the show. Like McDavid a bounceback is almost guaranteed.

Mitch Marner still mustered up five shots in the loss to Vancouver and is usually worth a roll of the diceThat line is hungry for goals and we think they will be hitting the ice with some intensity. He is not on our list today but definitely consider stacking Joe Thornton for the full monty.

As usual, please be careful with goalie starts as there are several coin flips. We expect that Carolina is going with Alex Nedejlkovic and so he is our starter today. He has been alternating games with James Reimer and he has been playing very well. Mrazek should be back soon so this will be your last chance for a while.

Now what do you get if you sign up now?

  • A great alternative to Matthews to save all the monies.
  • A new favorite utility player of ours.
  • More promotions to higher lines that have sneaky value.

Yanni Gourde – C ($4,200 DK) is a wonderfully cheap center. He has Steven Stamkos and Alex Killorn on his wings who are pretty ok at this game. He has moved up to the second line and his price has not caught up yet.

Travis Konecny – W ($5,100 DK) had quite a lull there for a bit, but appears to be back to form. He had good games against the Caps and the Pens and so should be ready to take on the Sabres who are trying to prevent a seven game skid.

Warren Foegele – W ($2,800 DK) has earned himself some top line minutes with Sebastian Aho and we are excited to see what he does with them. It does not get him top power play time but that is ok because he has been a very productive third liner so far this season. Fantastic value.

Aaron Ekblad – D ($5,700 DK) laid a big fat goose egg last game. That is an incredibly rare occurrence for the premier blueliner and we expect him to turn it around tonight. He should get you shots, blocks, and all the power play time you can get on your plate. The buffet is back open!

Shayne Gostisbehere – D ($3,000 DK) is having a heck of a comeback year after having a real tough go of it for a while. We are happy to see that he is still capable of high level play and is taking advantage of the lapses in Ivan Provorov’s game. Good matchup, good value. 👻🐻

Jason Spezza – U ($2,600 DK). You have seen him here before so you already know the deal. For next to no money you have a guy who is producing better than some second liners while only playing ten minutes a game. He is a gem.

Alternative Moves…

Brayden Point – C ($6,900 DK). If you are a little wary about Matthews wrist then save an easy $2,300 and go with Point. He has a great matchup and it is the Tampa Bay Lightning. What else do you need to know?

Alex Ovechkin – W ($8,300 DK). Upgrade Marner for pennies and get the great eight. He scored another goal last game which would not be news except that he is within three of catching Phil Esposito at sixth all time. That will happen sooner rather than later.

You will still have $1,700 left over from the Matthews to Point swap and you have a couple routes to go. Upgrade ghost bear to John Carlson or upgrade Warren Foegele to Carter Verhaege. Or go after someone else you have your eye on!

Whichever way you end up going let us know what you did with any extra cash. We are cool kids over on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX). May your taco Tuesday be fully loaded.
