NHL DFS Picks For March 14, 2021

Austin Matthews DFS

Another baller day, another baller lineup. Aside from Mason Marchment our team killed it yesterday. Did you know our first pick behind the paywall was Jake Guentzel? We noted in our description that he is slightly overperforming Crosby at the fantasy level and while they both scored a goal, Guentzel also got eight shots on net. We take those.

Today’s slate of games has a ton of potential with some lopsided matchups on the board. The two we want to highlight are the Carolina Hurricanes vs the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs vs the Ottawa Senators. The Wings had a couple of good games but we are not calling it a wagon yet. The Leafs may be slipping but expect them to use the Senators as a stepping stone.

Here’s a fun lineup For DFS Hockey 3/14/21 (using DraftKings Values)

CenterA. Matthews $9,300
Center  $3,000
WingW. Nylander $6,100
Wing  $5,100
Wing  $3,600
Defense  $7,100
Defense  $4,700
GoalieNedeljkovic $8,400
UtilityK. Bellows $2,500

Auston Matthews is still the guy to own. He, McDavid, and Pastrnak are hard to pass up on any given day. We did pass up on him yesterday and that was a rare good call. We will not do it twice in a row. Don’t forget that he has four more goals in four fewer games than McDavid. Respect the ‘stache.

William Nylander is having himself a heck of a season. Marner is getting up into the too expensive category for someone who mainly gets assists so save some dough and get Nylander. He has twelve goals which is one more than Mitch but he costs $2,100 less. John Tavares’ game is coming back and this line is doing some damage.

Alex Nedeljkovic is worth his weight in gold if you are weighing consonants in a last name. We only had to double check the spelling twice, we swear. The Hurricanes have more talented defensemen than they know what to do with. They have offensive powerhouses. They have Nedeljkovic. This team should make a deep run this year.

Kieffer Bellows surprised us all yesterday. We went after Beauvillier to take Anders Lee’s spot and he got us five shots which we are happy about but he did that on the second line. Bellows had been lambasted by Coach Barry Trotz about a month ago and we did not think we would see him back anytime soon. Then he goes and puts in two goals. We do not expect that again today but he has earned a top spot on a top team. He is worth the swing.

Now what do you get if you sign up now?

  • Several alternates who will give you plenty of flexibility.
  • A rookie on a top line.
  • A low floor but high ceiling defenseman.

Jason Dickinson – C ($3,000 DK) is a bit of an enigma. Originally drafted in the first round he does not usually see top six minutes. With Roope Hintz out though he is the second line center in Dallas and has Denis Gurianov on his wing. If he can feed Gurianov for a couple goals all will be well.

Zach Hyman – W ($5,100 DK) is the perfect depth piece in Toronto. He can play anywhere in the lineup and produce. It is looking like he may get top line today which is an easy buy. If he does score a goal expect it to be greasy. He will be right up in the goaltenders grill making it happen.

Jason Robertson – W ($3,600 DK). This rookie has shown some flashes of brilliance and it is about time we started to pay attention. He has made the most of injuries in Dallas and is hanging out on the top line with Joe Pavelski. His time on ice is climbing and so is our interest.

Miro Heiskanen – D ($4,700 DK) is our risky pick of the day. He has not matched last season and is in a bit of a sophomore slump. That said, we are feeling him today and think he will be getting some good power play time in.

Alternative Moves…

Ilya Sorokin – G ($8,100 DK). Save a few hundred bucks on your goalie and still feel comfortable. Sorokin has been playing well and is behind a great team. He still has to get used to the NHL but it is happening fast and in the perfect place.

Nathan MacKinnon – C ($8,900 DK) is still a stud. Swap out Matthews and we will see about upgrading Dickinson for you next.

Sam Girard – D ($5,700 DK). Swap out Dougie for Girard. This young gun is playing very well with Makar being out. He has a high floor as he shoots and blocks a decent amount. He also gets power play time which is invaluable on this team.

Brock Nelson – C ($5,000 DK). Upgrade Dickinson for Nelson. We do not talk about him enough here and he is not talked about enough in general. Did you know he has double digit goals already this year?

There are so many options today! Is it too many? Let us know your preferred number of choices and how we present them over on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX). Here is to a great week!
