NHL DFS Picks For June 23, 2021 (Showdown)

Matt Barzal
TAMPA, FL - JUNE 21: New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal (13) looks to clear the puck during game 5 of NHL Stanley Cup 3rd round Hockey match between the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders on June 21, 2021 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. (Photo by Andrew Bershaw/Icon Sportswire)

We are not head coaches at the NHL level but the choice to put Marc Andre Fleury in after Robin Lehner had such a great game is a bit perplexing. It is not just because it makes our article look silly, but the Vegas Golden Knights lost 4-1 to the Montreal Canadiens and it does not seem like they needed to. Oh well, life goes on and so do our predictions.

The New York Islanders have a tough night ahead of them. It will take all the mental fortitude they can muster to come back from the devastation of two nights ago. They got stomped 8-0 by the Tampa Bay Lightning who seem to have figured out their business. As we called in that day’s article, it is all about Steven Stamkos and he came up huge. We are feeling a pretty nice spread from all four of Tampa’s lines tonight. If you are holding out hope for game seven, do not worry we will have a Long Island line for you.

Here’s a fancy lineup For DFS Hockey 6/23/21 (using DraftKings Values)

CaptainA. Vasilevskiy$16,500
FlexPoint/Barzal~$9,400

We are doubling down on a goalie today except we feel like there is a slightly higher chance he starts. Andrei Vasilevskiy will be tasked with getting his team to the Stanley Cup Finals. This is an elimination game and the Lightning have been here before. The best goaltender in the world should probably be your captain tonight.

Seriously, though, who do you pick between the two top centers? Brayden Point has nine goals in his last ten games. He is working his way up playoff leader boards and his name is seeing some rarefied air. That does not mean that Mat Barzal cannot achieve those things. This Islanders team, even if they do not progress, have made the Conference Finals two years in a row and are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Now what do you get if you sign up now?
•An upgrade for Mat Barzal on his wing that he desperately needed
•Second line beauties

It may have made more sense to compare Mat Barzal to Steven Stamkos, but that is just a testament to how good Tampa is. Instead we will put up the next best Islander which is Anthony Beauvillier. Much like the last time we wrote about this matchup, the second line for Long Island is the one that really needs to step up. Beauvillier wants it. We can see it in his eyes. Can he make it happen tonight?

We were a bit surprised to see that the venerable Ryan McDonagh has a higher FPPG than Adam Pelech. They both share those same characteristics that we love which is the ability and willingness to lay in front of the puck. Both will have their work cut out for them tonight. We expect a lot of shots, but not a lot will actually make it on goal.

We noticed that Kyle Palmieri has moved up to the top line and bumped Leo Komarov back down the lineup. This makes way too much sense and we have no idea why Komarov held that position as long as he did. He has his role and it is not on the top line. Palmieri was a trade deadline acquisition and has come up big a few times. Tonight will tell us how successful that trade was.

Happy hump day. The week is cruising on by and the weekend is coming back around again. If you are new here, please find us on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX) and give us a follow. Cheers..
