NHL DFS Picks For January 14, 2022

Darcy Kuemper
VANCOUVER, BC - NOVEMBER 17: Colorado Avalanche goaltender Darcy Kuemper (35) makes a save against the Vancouver Canucks during their NHL game at Rogers Arena on November 17, 2021 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. (Photo by Derek Cain/Icon Sportswire)

David Pastrnak scored the 11th hat trick of his career in a big win for the Boston Bruins and Tuukka Rask over the Philadelphia Flyers. Word has it that he told Rasl before the game that that was exactly what he was going to do. It seems like a great idea to keep him on the second line with Hall so that the team can terrorize the league.

There is a very obvious mismatch tonight with the Colorado Avalanche playing the Arizona Coyotes. The Avalanche are great and the Coyotes are not good, but historically those things get magnified when they play together. Coupled with the AVs goalie having once played for the Yotes, we are going after them big today.

Here’s an All Star lineup For DFS Hockey 1/14/21 (using DraftKings Values)

CenterN. Kadri$6,700
Center
WingA. Burakovsky$4,800

GoalieD. Kuemper$8,400

Karel Vejmelka had a ridiculous game against the Leafs stopping over 40 shots. He is likely to see just as many tonight and so we cannot in good conscience take him even though we are rooting for his underdog story. We have to go with former Coyotes netminder Darcy Kumper. The offensive firepower on the team does come with the caveat that he may not see many shots so his ceiling is not the highest. We will have on other option for you if you stick around past the freebies.

Nazem Kadri may have more claim to the NHL All Star game than Nathan MacKinnon does. Big Mac is still going to be their representative and for good reason but when it comes to DFS Kadri should be your guy for the savings.

Andre Burakovsky is a sneaky pick today with Gabriel Landeskog sidelined. He gets to hang out with MacKinnon and has earned those top line minutes. He is incredibly affordable coming in at under five grand.

It is only a $200 savings but Sergei Bobrovsky has an awesome opposition tonight. The Dallas Stars are shining bright right now with Joe Pavelski having a monster five point night a day or two ago. This is the time for Bob to step up big and show everyone why he is paid the big bucks.

Do not worry about the IR tag on Kirill Kaprizov. He only missed one game after the crappy hit from Trent Frederic of the Boston Bruins. He has had time to recover and just got named to the All Star game. Full steam ahead for Kirill the Thrill.

Jonathan Huberdeau got the nod for the All Star game over Alexander Barkov which is only a small surprise to us. Barkov missed some time and Huberdeau has done nothing but put up points regardless of who he is with on the ice. He is a special talent and we are confident he finally breaks the 100 point mark this season.

What is that? Yet another All Star selection? Holy heck today’s team is stacked. Cale Makar is going to pile up accolades over his career if he can stay healthy. He is having a monster of a year and is certainly in contention for the Norris award.

Alex Newhook was selected in the first round in 2019 and is maturing nicely on the third line for Colorado. He is safely sheltered and he is growing quickly. He may have some big guns ahead of him on the depth chart but they do not need him to do everything and that is great for his development.

Frank Vatrano is one of Florida’s secret weapons. With zero power play time he has eight goals in 34 games. That may not seem like a lot but one goal every four games playing 13 minutes a night is actually impressive. This will be his sixth game since his last tally. He is due.

Brendan Guhle has not played an NHL game in almost two years. He is finally getting the call up after an injury derailed his young career. We have been looking forward to this for a long time. He’s a good kid who is not likely to get you any goals but he should be piling up hits and blocks. It’s a no risk, low reward situation for someone who is desperate to keep his job.
