Welcome to 2022. Here is your space car and food replicator. Wait, we don’t have those yet? The Jetsons lied to us! We guess we can wait a little longer. In the meantime let’s watch some old timey hockey and watch caveman hit each other with sticks. There is a whole board of games to go through today so we are going straight after the thing that caught our eye. The Toronto Maple Leafs.

Jack Campbell and the Toronto Maple Leafs have had some games postponed recently and it seems hard to remember when we even picked one last. Campbell is having a career year and you know Auston Matthews is going to be firing on all cylinders.
Matthews might be difficult to afford today, although we will have a cheaper goalie for you out later on that may help it work. In the meantime, John Tavares is your guy. A modest price for a modest man.
There is certainly a case to be made for Morgan Reilly here to complete the theme, but we are going after Drew Doughty. He missed three games due to the protocol and should be well rested. The man has over a point per game as a defenseman and that is very worth his price point.

The first big swaperoo is going to.be replacing Campbell with Jonathan Quick. That’s a cool grand in savings and Quick is crushing it this year. Only one goal allowed in his last game and a Kings team that can handle injuries and Covid with the insane depth in their prospect pipeline.
J.T. Miller had an insane diving pass to set up Bo Horvat for a goal. The wherewithal to find his teammates stick as he is falling to the ice and put the puck on it is a thing of beauty that we have only watched about 50 times so far.
In all of this, you will be able to afford Auston Matthews if you so choose. Not only that, we got you Kirill Kaprizov. The Wild will be hurting without Eriksson Ek who will be out a month or two, but Kaprizov has been on a line with Ryan Hartman and they just get each other. They will need to step up with the loss of one of their best.
If you do end up keeping Tavares around, we would suggest pairing Alex Kerfoot with him. You could also take him on his own if you did upgrade. Super cheap with some big upside.
If you are in the market for a Flyer we would suggest Kevin Hayes today. With Sean Couturier out, Hayes will move up to second line center. He has a lot to give this season and this could be a great opportunity for him.
We have a couple dirt cheap defenders for you that can help push you over the top. We are flipping a coin between Alex Goligoski and Travis Sanheim. Both are excellent at the little things you know we like. We may lean towards Goli just because he gets some power play two time in Minnesota.
Last guy we are tossing out is Brandon Saad. We are not sure what his major malfunction is this year but he should be top line with the Blues and is certainly capable of putting up monster numbers.
We hope your hangovers are mild and that bad decisions were kept to a minimum last night. Come find us on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX) and celebrate the new year with a day full of hockey. Best regards and Happy New Year!
