NHL DFS Picks For February 8, 2021

Brock McGinn

We call them like we see them here at FantasyDFSExperts. We delivered on our promise to sniff out a goal from a young guy getting better minutes. Brock McGinn scored on a beautiful setup from Aho and Svechnikov and likely cemented his place on the top line in Carolina.

There are a couple games we are taking a closer look at today. The Toronto Maple Leafs face a dwindling Vancouver Canucks team and the Edmonton Oilers matchup against the Ottawa Senators. Spoiler alert: We have a couple players on our list on the weaker teams. Come try out your free month with us to find out who they are.

Here’s a Flexible Lineup For DFS Hockey 2/8/21 (using DraftKings Values)

         C       C. McDavid                          $9,000 (DK)

         C       __________                            $4,000 (DK)

         W      M. Marner                            $7,700 (DK)

         W      __________                            $4,700 (DK)

         W      __________                            $3,900 (DK)

         D       __________                            $5,400 (DK)

         D       __________                            $5,000 (DK)

         G       D. Kuemper                          $7,400 (DK)

         U       __________                            $2,900 (DK)

It can be hard to build a team around Connor McDavid given how expensive he is but he is like having two top tier players for one price. We found a couple places to save some money to make it happen and still managed a roster that we are proud of. Our alternates today will look at a cheaper center which will allow you a lot more flexibility.

The Arizona Coyotes have been playing well as of late and have been giving the Blues fits. We are going to run Darcy Kuemper today as he has been tremendous and is likely to see a lot of shots. We very much like Vasilevskiy but that was a corner we needed to cut when drafting McDavid. Kuemper will be solid tonight and we are hoping the Coyotes give him the goal support he deserves.

Mitch Marner has been an absolute stud this season. Points upon points is what you get when you feed Auston Matthews silky passes for dominating goals. These two are going to terrorize the league for the next decade.

Our favorite value, star D-man
Kids just starting to break out in the NHL that can be DFS bargains.
• A player who was lost in the NHL but is back now and his price is going up and up. It might be time to get in.

Quinn Hughes – D ($5,400 DK) continues to maintain a comfortable cost to production ratio for us. That couple with a high ceiling makes this a no brainer. He had a helper on the only Canucks goal last game and is a bright spot on a dull team.

Jakub Chychrun – D ($5,000 DK). Oliver Ekman-Larsson remains sidelined with an injury and is considered week-to-week. Chychrun has filled the void wonderfully and he is coming off a two goal game. The Coyotes may have trouble making the playoffs but they have fantasy relevant players that we should not be forgetting about.

Ryan Strome – C ($4,000 DK). The second line center for the New York Rangers tends to get lost in the mix with all the other superstars around but he has been doing his job and doing it well. He has five points in his last four games and played over 21 minutes. Think of him less as one fantasy player but as part of the McDavid package. He does not need to get a ton of points he just needs to be the cherry on top.

Zach Hyman – W ($4,700 DK) is the other Maple Leaf we are targeting today. He is up on the top line with Marner and Matthews and has been a reliable pickup all season.

Tim Stuetzle – W ($3,900 DK) will be in the running for the Calder trophy this year even playing on a weak team. It has been strange watching him score this year as the Senators have been playing from behind more often than not. He scores and then skates flat faced to the bench for high fives. When the Senators turn it around make sure to watch Stuetzle as he is a ball of pure joy when things are going well.

Brock McGinn – U ($2,900 DK). We are running this one back again. His time on ice jumped five whole minutes and with the goal he scored may be a mainstay with some hot talent on his line. Did you notice that he is also $300 cheaper today? Run with it.

Alternative Moves…

• Andre Vasilevskiy – G ($8,500 DK). If you swap McDavid out for the next center then you can easily afford Vasilevskiy. He is the best bet in net these days and always a good choice.

• Brayden Point – C ($7,600 DK) is leading the Lightning back to the promised land. They are top in their division and are cruising to playoff berth. Point has been crushing it and is a huge savings over McDavid.

• Jesse Puljujarvi – W ($4,500 DK). We had him on our list yesterday for obvious reasons and he scored a goal. Playing on McDavid’s wing is a golden ticket and he is cashing it in.

• Ryan Ellis – D ($4,900 DK) is the discount Roman Josi. If you want to save a few hundred bucks on Quinn Hughes pick up Ellis.

The world revolves around Connor McDavid and so do our picks. If you are going out on a limb today and going for some other players let us know on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX). Have a great week.
