You might think we would try and go after Detroit today and pump Chicago’s tires, but you would be wrong. The Red Wings walked all over the Blackhawks and so we cannot really promote either. Instead we will be taking a look at a game missing a superstar.
The Philadelphia Flyers will play a Buffalo Sabres team missing Jack Eichel. Technically he is day to day and he could pop back in but signs are not looking good. The already struggling Sabres will have a mountain to climb and Carter Hart sits at the top.
Here’s a simple lineup For DFS Hockey 2/28/21 (using DraftKings Values)
Center | S. Couturier | $6,100 | |
Center | $3,800 | ||
Wing | Ovechkin | $8,400 | |
Wing | C. Sheary | $3,100 | |
Wing | $6,300 | ||
Defense | $6,700 | ||
Defense | $4,200 | ||
Goalie | C. Hart | $8,000 | |
Utility | $3,000 |
Carter Hart has had a week to lick his wounds after getting decimated by the Boston Bruins in Lake Tahoe. Do not worry about that anomaly. Their squad is healing up and tapping back into their true potential. He is a steal at only $8,000.
Sean Couturier has been on an absolute tear after coming back from injury. The Flyers were sure missing him and he is delivering. He has been in the Selke conversation for a few years now and won his first just last season. Being the top two way forward in the game is a remarkable achievement. It really allows him to create his own opportunities and then capitalize on them.
Alexander Ovechkin is in a bit of a goal scoring slump. You know the drill. Grab him and get ready for the shot king to go off. If Aaron Dell is in net he is going to have a bad night. The Great Eight has eight shots in his last three games and we would not be surprised if he put up that many in one game tonight.
Conor Sheary is probably a surprise pick but we have the science to back it up. He has been promoted to the top line after having been a healthy scratch a couple times this year. He has some of the best five on five numbers on his team and will most certainly try to make the best of his time setting up Ovechkin. What a gift.

Nick Foligno – C ($3,800 DK) was our last pick of the day and he is an interesting one. The captain of the Blue Jackets has been bounced around the lineup and is actually on the wing right now. At the very least he shoots and blocks so his floor for that price is great.
Patrik Laine – W ($6,300 DK) is in a similar situation to Ovechkin and has been held off the score sheet for too long. Yes it has only been a couple games but Laine is just that good. We especially like the matchup against Nashville and are happy to roll him for a decent price.
John Carlson – D ($6,700 DK) is continuing to do John Carlson things and playing like a forward who moonlights as a defenseman. A point per game defenseman is a rare commodity in today’s NHL and he is worth every penny.
Ty Smith – D ($4,200 DK). We may not have a ton of hope for the Devils tonight but Ty Smith is a bright spot in New Jersey. He is a John Carlson lite and has provided a nice surge in offense. He is top pairing along with Damon Severson and will look to upset the Capitals who just stole first in the division from the Bruins.
Scott Laughton – U ($3,000 DK) is our utility guy today and is a fun pick to watch. His development curve has taken a little longer than some may have hoped for from the first round pick in 2012 but his numbers are increasing year over year and we would say he is breaking out.
Alternative Moves…
If you have an aversion to looking like a Philadelphia fan because of our picks today we understand. Let us help you wash those hands and lead you away from the Broad Street Bullies.
Mat Barzal – C ($6,400 DK). There is actually enough money left over to upgrade Couturier to Barzal for free. He is putting together an impressive campaign and is hovering just under a point per game. He is lightning fast and like Couturier can drive play by himself and create something from nothing.
Ilya Sorokin – G ($7,500 DK) should be starting in net after Varlamov played last night against the Penguins. The newcomer to the NHL has already found his first shutout and will be looking to repeat that performance tonight. As he adjusts to the North American game there will be some turbulence but we are confident in his ability to smooth it all out. That should leave you with about $1,100 to upgrade one more player.
Noah Dobson – D ($4,000 DK). Another young stud that is up and coming we like where Dobson’s game is going. He may be third pairing right now but he does see top power play time and that is a good indication that there is some good trust there. That should leave you with $100 left over. Treat yo self.
