NHL DFS Picks For February 23, 2022

The New York Islanders got us a few wins last night. Ilya Sorokin got himself another win, Brock Nelson got a goal and Noah Dobson helped out with an assist. All around great value. There are a couple of coin flip battles that we are going to dig into today but wanted to focus on the Edmonton Oilers vs the Tampa Bay Lightning. For all the woes the Oilers seem to have they’re still doing fine in the standings and have been winning more than losing. They are up against the Lightning, though, who, despite being back-to-back Stanley Cup Champions, are having another quietly great season. This should be a playoff level bout.

Here’s an electric lineup For DFS Hockey 2/23/22 (using DraftKings Values)

WingN. Kucherov$8,500

DefenseV. Hedman$6,400
Defense
GoalieA. Vasilevskiy$8,100
Utility

Andre Vasilevskiy is having yet another amazing year. He is putting up some crazy career numbers and deserves a whole lot more attention than he is getting. By the end of the season we expect he will just crest 10,000 saves in his time in Tampa. That’s a lot of saves. It will not be easy with you-know-who shooting on him, but the defense in front of him will be covering as much as they can.

Nikita Kucherov is also somehow flying under the radar even though he has 20 points in 14 games. It is clearly due to time missed, but he came back like he was never gone. We really hope he gets another full season to take a real shot at the scoring title again.

Victor Hedman is cruising along at a point per game and is the face of the opposition. If you are the Oilers, you are worried about stopping Kucherov and crew, but when looking down the ice towards the other goal, there stands Hedman at 6’6” without his skates on. It will take a lot to even have a shot at Vasi.

The Colorado Avalanche do not lose many games and we doubt that they have lost two in a row this season. To lose this next one to the Detroit Red Wings seems unlikely. Nazem Kadri should be of great value then since we will not have the funds for Nathan MacKinnon. Kadri is having an All Star year and we are thinking of strapping Andre Burakovsky into this package. That should consolidate all the juicy value into a one stop shop.

If you want to go heavy on Tampa today, Anthony Cirelli has been managing a lot of shots even though he has seen a reduction in ice time. The Lightning appear to have changed up his role to penalty killer but that means he is also blocking more shots. He has a decent floor and could very well throw another cherry on top. For a higher ceiling and a couple hundred more dollars Jamie Benn will be leading the Stars against a mercurial Winnipeg Jets team. We have no idea who will show up on any given night, but we know Benn will be giving it his all, he has no other gear.

The Buffalo Sabres vs Montreal Canadiens could be an absolutely amazing game or just a garbage show. The Habs are on the up and up while the Sabres are sliding down the standings. We guided your attention to Jeff Petry recently as his play has been improving and he did us right with an assist, a shot and a couple blocks. His FPPG means most people will overlook him, making him a diamond in the rough. Along with that you have Cole Caufield who has also turned things around. Seeing that kid happy is its own joy and with Buffalo’s dreadful goaltending situation, this might be a night we see his face split from ear to ear.

With the money you have left you can fit a decent utility guy in. Do you go with Phillip Danaultwho faces the Arizona Coyotes? How about Evan Bouchard, the rising defensive star in Edmonton? Or do you go after former third overall pick Pierre-Luc Dubois? Take a look at each of them and see who fits your fancy.

The week is rolling on and so are we. Did you catch any of that epic matchup between the Predators and Panthers last night? Games are just going to continue to be more competitive as the season progresses. Make it easy on yourself and get your notifications about our content on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX). Have an awesome Wednesday and we will see you same time tomorrow. Au revoir!
