NHL DFS Picks For February 18, 2021

Brad Marchand
TAMPA, FL - MARCH 03: Boston Bruins left wing Brad Marchand (63) skates against Tampa Bay Lightning center Anthony Cirelli (71) in the 2nd period of the NHL game between the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning on March 03, 2020 at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. Note: We updated the starting goalie in Boston for tonight as of 9:44 PST

The Florida Panthers continue their path to legitimacy, the Maple Leafs are still almost losing to the Senators, and the Vancouver Canucks finally hit the brakes on their skid which completely destroyed our picks yesterday. Such is the story of the modern day NHL which can see upsets around every turn. Stick with us because we are just fine rolling with the punches.

The focus today will be on the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils. The Devils have been playing upstart but the Bruins are coming off a nice rest. After their loss to the Islanders they will be looking to reassert dominance. We are going with the veterans in this tilt but still wish the young squad luck.

Here’s a bear-y good lineup For DFS Hockey 2/18/21 (using DraftKings Values)

CenterP. Bergeron $8,300
Center  $2,500
WingB. Marchand                               $7,900
Wing  $3,400
Wing  $2,900
Defense  $5,600
Defense  $4,000
GoalieJ. Halak (UPDATED) $8,300
Utility  $6,800

At what point do the media admit that Patrice Bergeron is not underrated anymore? It has been a strange talking point for years about a guy who has invested in more than one trophy shelf at this point and continues to lead one of the best teams in hockey. There is no secret. Bergeron is elite.

All the memes surrounding Brad Marchand, on the other hand, are still worth investing in. Whatever is said of him good or bad is probably correct. He is a polarizing figure but he backs it up with next level play. Eighteen points in fourteen games and half of those are goals. The nose knows.

Tuukka Rask dropped a stinker to the Islanders and will be looking to bounce back against New Jersey. As with the other two freebies today we should not need to laud his accolades. He is one of the best in the game and has a great matchup tonight.

Now what do you get if you sign up now?
A depth center who has some sneaky veteran weapons.
A third line stack that is keeping a popular team afloat.
A utility player worth his weight in gold.

Jaret Anderson-Dolan – C ($2,500 DK). It may seem odd to go after a third line center on a team that is not currently in a playoff spot but take a look at the standings one more time. They have as many goals as the Golden Knights who sit in first place. Anderson-Dolan has Jeff Carter on his wing and is seeing second power play time. We have watched some of his game and cannot wait to watch more.

Zach Aston-Reese – W ($3,400 DK) is part of our all-hyphenated team…just kidding. Recently back on the team from injury Aston-Reese has been helping keep the Penguins relevant. Three goals in three games may not be sustainable but he is out there working his tail off.

Brandon Tanev – W ($2,900 DK). Stack Tanev with Aston-Reese for some high ceiling value. While the Islanders try to contain the top two lines these two should be able to shine. Their center Blueger has quietly been putting together a respectable season and we look forward to seeing what they can put together tonight.

Charlie McAvoy – D ($5,600 DK) may not be the coaches first choice on the top power play but with Matt Grzylck still sidelined the honor goes to McAvoy. He is still a great puck distributor and has been a lot more aggressive in moving past the blue line towards the opposing goalie. He will see some juicy minutes.

Justin Schultz – D ($4,000 DK) is good for a few shots and blocks per game. On top of that he has been enjoying some time on the Capital’s second power play and has been getting assists in that time. High floor, medium high ceiling. Perfect price for that sweet spot of value.

Patrik Laine – U  ($6,800 DK) has been everything as advertised for the Columbus Blue Jackets. He is one of the purest goal scorers in the league and the Nashville Predators have been like Swiss cheese. With all due respect to Roman Josi and the wonderful country of Switzerland, tonight may be a tough one for them.

Alternative Moves…

Jordan Binnington – G ($8,300 DK) has been playing pretty well despite the Blues struggles. They have a great matchup against the bottom feeding Sharks and will be looking to go fishing after losing a best of seven series to the Arizona Coyotes.

Kirill Kaprizov – W ($5,200 DK). The Wild had a mild game coming back from an extended break but Kaprizov was on. He managed five shots in the contest and is a bright spot on a middle of the road team. He will be looking to lead the way tonight.

Justin Holl – D ($3,700 DK) is one of those late bloomers that looks like he was just poorly managed for years. He is having a breakout season and just turned 29. He has a decent floor and has been a joy to watch. Swap out McAvoy to save some cash and upgrade other pieces if you like this matchup more.
