NHL DFS Picks For February 16, 2021

Matt Barzal DFS
SAN JOSE, CA - JANUARY 25:Detroit Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard (35) makes a save on New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal (13) in the NHL Save Streak at the NHL All-Star Skills Competition on January 25, 2019, at SAP Center in San Jose, CA (Photo by Matt Cohen/Icon Sportswire)

The Dallas Stars vs Nashville Predators game has been postponed. Do not draft their players!

In other news, we hope you rolled the dice on Subban after the last second change away from Lankinen. The Chicago Blackhawks are officially a dark horse. Our boy Hagel got us an assist and the kids are OK.

We are going back to a very flexible lineup nearly devoid of household names. There are still superstars in the making but we will leave you with some extra funds to make it your way. Take special care to read about each guy before you take him as we write this early and things change fast.

Here’s a fishy lineup For DFS Hockey 2/16/21 (using DraftKings Values)

CenterM. Barzal $7,100
Center  $5,600
Wing                                       $6,600
Wing  $4,800
Wing  $3,800
DefenseR. Pulock $5,200
Defense  $3,400
GoalieI. Sorokin $7,900
Utility  $2,900

Your dear analyst may not have always said the nicest things about Mat Barzal but he is a great play today. He is over a point per game and is up against a Sabres team that is playing back to back after missing time due to postponements. Look for him to keep it rolling.

Ryan Pulock is finally getting up to speed. And by speed we mean power. He is a big body on the ice and to start the season he had not been using it as much as we had been hoping. The hits and blocks are coming back and with that confidence the points are coming in too.

Ilya Sorokin NHL stats are terrible. His KHL stats on the other hand are video game numbers. He has won every award you can own in Russia and is just adjusting to American ice. He has a great opportunity to find his groove against the Buffalo Butter Knives.

Now what do you get if you sign up now?
A couple sophomore centers who are quickly building solid careers.
A new peripheral packing defensema
Top line wingers that are underrated.

Jack Hughes – C ($5,600 DK). We tend to hold Covid teams at arms length and for good reason, but Hughes is the top line center in New Jersey right now and has turned around his game since his abysmal rookie season. We hope he gets right back to form against a Rangers team that just cannot seem to put it together.

Bryan Rust – W ($6,600 DK). You love to get any one on Crosby’s wing. It is a difficult job playing with someone so cerebral but Rust has been up to the task. Six points in the last three games alongside one of the greatest playmakers in the game gives us confidence.

Alex Iafallo – W ($4,800 DK). Copy and paste the above and and replace Crosby with Kopitar. Iafallo has been having a phenomenal season and no one should be all that surprised. The Kings play a Wild team that has had some time off and they are clicking right now.

Alex Tuch – W ($3,800 DK). You know we love to take this guy when no one else is jumping out at us. The hulking Tuch has a scoring touch and if he continues his on one game and off one game that makes tonight an on night. His price has been steadily declining so it is low risk solid reward.

Ryan Graves – D ($3,400 DK) is our daily floor raiser. His ability to block shots and take them is outstanding. Vegas will be putting rubber on net tonight unless Graves has something to say about it. The 24 year old may not light the lamp often but that is not the role he was built for.

Gabe Vilardi – U  ($2,900 DK). The Kings almost have a problem with the center depth they enjoy. Vilardi sits atop the pile right now and while he has not seen the fruits of his labor the eye test checks out. The kid is good and it is just a matter of time.

Alternative Moves…

Nick Backstrom – C ($6,700 DK). Centering Ovechkin for years has given Backstrom the chance to make the hall of fame with his playmaking ability. He also seems to be scoring more goals than usual which we are pleasantly surprised by.

Mark Stone – W ($6,400 DK) and Max Pacioretty ($7,700) have a tough game tonight. That does not mean they will not succeed as they are playing fantastic right now. This bout should be worth finding some time to watch. We expect fireworks.

Alex Pietrangelo – D ($6,200 DK). Continuing on our Vegas kick we find Pietrangelo at the top of the lineup with Shea Theodore out. That means he owns the power play right now and it is probably worth upgrading Pulock with some of the extra cash on hand.

We want to make sure you can make full use of our format. If you have any questions on how we put this together and how to use it send some questions to Twitter (@FantasyDFSX) and we will be more than happy to explain the process. Happy Mardi Gras!
