NHL DFS Picks For December 29, 2021

Late news: The Detroit Red Wings v New York Islanders game has been postponed!

You might think that yesterday’s goalie pick James Reimer was a poor one due to letting in seven goals but you would be mistaken. No starting goalie had over a .900 save percentage and he managed to get the win and the 35+ Save bonus. It wasn’t pretty but if you look at the shot totals, it is clear Reimertron was the reason the Sharks won this game.

We are excited about a particular game today that may not be on most people’s radar. The New Jersey Devils face the Buffalo Sabres and the average age of this game is going to be very low. The Sabres just recalled three high level prospects and another guy that has yet to lace up for them just got off of IR and will be playing in front of his hometown for the team he grew up rooting for.

Here’s a juicy lineup For DFS Hockey 12/29/21 (using DraftKings Values)

GoalieM. Jones$7,400

The Philly Flyers are slowly but surely finding their groove and have been putting up goals in the ways they deserve to. Martin Jones is a bit of a whipping boy in the league but his numbers this year are still an uptick over his last couple seasons in San Jose. Couple that with a surging team and the Kraken may have trouble tonight.

We afforded you a couple big names today by taking Alex Tuch and at least one other dirt cheap winger who we will tell you about later. He has not played a game yet this season due to surgery over the summer but we are more than hopeful for him. This is a special night for him coming home after a big trade sent Jack Eichel to Vegas. He will be on the top line and repping his hometown colors. Welcome home, bud.

Leon Draisaitl is an ok talent. We guess. It has been a pretty simple calculation this year. Drai gets goals and is cheaper than McDavid. Connor is still the best player in the world but Drai is still next level.

We did it. We afforded Draisaitl and Alex Ovechkin! Ovi continues to chug along and is closing in on the next goal scorer on the all time list. Jaromir Jagr has always been one of our favorites with his iconic mullet and ridiculous skills. Ovechkin has a tough matchup against Juuse Saros, but like we said, he will get you shots galore as a baseline.

Bo Horvat and the Vancouver Canucks have been surging much like the Flyers. He is finding his game again and has been lighting the lamp like we predicted earlier in the season. Our other fantasy teams wish it had happened sooner but he is coming along nicely.

Let’s block off some time to look at defensive options. We love Aaron Ekblad but we are saving some coin and taking Mackenzie Weegar first and foremost. He came off of Covid protocol and is an all around beast. Quinn Hughes would be a good stack with Horvat being the power play guy in Vancouver. But say you wanted to upgrade Weegar to Adam Fox. We would probably go with Ryan Graves as he is a blocking machine. Not a ton of offense but that’s why you took Fox.

Onto to the smallest but most important pieces. How can we take the lowest valued players and turn them into gold? First we have Warren Foegele who has moved up next to McJesus. This is part of the reason we went Drai because we still get some access to the best. One thing we have not talked about is the Sabres goalie situation. UPL is probably going to get shelled so trying to get some Devils in is not a terrible idea. We are considering Yegor Sharangovich for a limited time.

Last but certainly not least is John-Jason Peterka. Drafted early in the second round in 2020 it has become abundantly clear he should have gone first round. He was lighting up the DEL before he came across the pond and is now almost a point per game in the AHL. He was always going to get a cup of coffee this year and now is the time.

Ahhh, hockey. The warm blanket that helps us sleep at night. Keep up with us on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX) and have yourselves an awesome Wednesday. Peace.
