NHL DFS Picks For April 20, 2022

PITTSBURGH, PA - MARCH 07: Washington Capitals Left Wing Alex Ovechkin (8) celebrates with the bench after Washington Capitals Right Wing T.J. The playoffs are near and the matchups are getting a little weird. PLEASE set a timer somehow – somewhere for 30 minutes before game time (7:00 PM PST) to double check your players as they’ve been coming and going in and out of lineups. Austin Matthews sat last night against my hapless Flyers and why shouldn’t he. 60 goals is nice but Toronto wants to win a Cup and they will need Mr. Scottsdale healthy for that. Others will get the same treatment.

Here’s a core lineup For DFS Hockey 4/20/22 (using DraftKings Values)

CenterJT Compher$2,800
Center
WingOvechkin$8,300
Wing
Wing
DefenseS. Gostisbehere$4,400
Defense
Goalie
Utility $2,900

JT Compher is a tricky pick at $2,800 in that as the second line center in Colorado versus a very bad Seattle team – he could be a steal. The problem is: DraftKings is suggesting that Kadri is possibly playing tonight. If he is, that $2,800 isn’t as good of a value thus forcing you to pick less of a second, super-star center. See why I said to check back 30 minutes before the puck drops. I like this play if it works out. Time will tell. Second line center minutes. Second PP time on a killer Colorado team.

Alex Ovechkin at $8,300 wants the goal record and I suspect that he will be shooting from everywhere tonight to pad his stats. He’s not a bad value at $8,300 as crazy as that sound as we’ve found some good values elsewhere.

Shane Gostisbehere at $4,400 could be a nice play at slightly below average price. Arizona is a terrible team and Ghost doesn’t play much defense (ever) but that isn’t how DFS hockey works. He seems to keep scoring despite the teams woes.

• A $2,900 value play that allows us to go hard in some other categories.
• A big name d-man who we hope out produces Ghost yet keeps us on budget.
• A red-hot, young center who we can afford because of our other value plays.
• Much more.

Jack Eichel is red hot now after getting his legs back after serious surgery. Vegas is much more healthy so why not go with him at center tonight? If Kadri is back – he has been a horse to ride ALL YEAR but I am not sure he’s coming back just yet. Some of the sites that I trust are saying not tonight as of this morning. $6,800 gives you some more money to take less risk in the UTL position if you like.

How is Mark Stone $4,500 tonight? We will take a traditionally PPG wing for that and roll the Vegas dices. At $5,200 tonight, V. Nichushkin is penciling in this morning on the first line on Colorado. At that price? Yes, please…. Other tempting options are Joe Pavelski at $5,800 as he too is on a nearly PPG pace and fantasy sports always age discriminates. $4,000 Tom Wilson speaks to me as an additional option at wing tonight as he tends to get premium ice time in Washington.

On the blueline, because we took Ghost, we have some budget to go with a $6,300 John Carlson who is “expensive” but within our budget. I hate NOT to take Cale Makar as that guy is about as good as it gets in DFS and with Devon Toews out again – he’s going to get every look versus Seattle. The problem tonight is budget. Perhaps downgrade The Great 8 and take Makar? That could be a play too as D-scoring is harder to come by than forwards, as you know.

Tonight’s matchup leave us with few easy locks for win other than Colorado and Kuemper. He’s looking like he will get the nod but it is too early to know for sure so keep an eye on that. Take Pavel Francouz if that changes as they are close to the same price. I don’t trust the Dallas-Edmonton game. I normally bet against Arizona but Chicago isn’t anything special. I like to get those points for the W whenever possible thus tonight there aren’t too many options.
