NHL DFS Picks For April 17, 2022

Ilya Sorokin
SAN JOSE, CA - FEBRUARY 24: New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin (30) stretches during a timeout during the NHL game between the San Jose Sharks and the New York Islanders on February 24, 2022 at SAP Center in San Jose, CA. (Photo by Matt Cohen/Icon Sportswire)

Two weeks until the end of the regular season. Only six spots in the playoffs remain in contention. Ten have already been secured, although seeding could change all the way to the last game. The New York Islanders may be making their last stand today. They have a better chance than you might think, even facing the mighty Maple Leafs. Their goalie has been red hot and they are not quitting.

Here’s a fishy lineup For DFS Hockey 4/17/22 (using DraftKings Values)

CenterB. Nelson$6,200

DefenseN. Dobson$5,900

GoalieI. Sorokin$7,300

Ilya Sorokin came out and put on a clinic shutting out the Montreal Canadiens. He has quietly amassed seven shutouts on the season, trailing only Jakob Markstrom. Next season is going to see a huge resurgence from the Islanders and as Semyon Varlamov has his time reduced a little more, Sorokin is going to show everyone what he is all about.

Brock Nelson has 20 points in his last 15 games. We are not totally sure how healthy Jack Campbell is in the Leafs net and the Isles best winger options are by Nelsons side. This line is the one going to be doing the most damage and doing the most to keep their heads above water. The loss would guarantee that the Capitals clinch and we can promise they will do everything in their power to prevent that from happening.

Noah Dobson continues his steady drip of points. He is well over half a point a game and we were pleasantly surprised to see that he has 11 goals on the season to complement the 31 assists he has garnered. Both of these guys are on the top power play which sees their value continue to rise.

The Blue Jackets look done, done. They are not exactly tanking for a better draft pick, but they know their season is over and they do not want to hurt any of the young talent that is building their new core. They outperformed this year and will be looking to continue to surprise next year. In the wake of that, take John Gibson. The Ducks are still fighting for a spot and their opponent is just easier than what the Isles have to deal with tonight.

We are not going after Auston Matthews today for obvious reasons, so we will offer a modest upgrade on Nelson. Tage Thompson is having a magical year and Philly is having, well, a Philly year. The jawns in Fishtown are going to have a tough offseason looking at how to right this ship. The Sabres are long out of it, but have been a handful for every team they play. It helps that Tage is an absolute behemoth of a man.

Do not go too cheap on your second center and take either Brayden Schenn or Ryan O’Reilly. The Blues are not gaining enough attention for how scary they are. Who is slowing them down? They are a recent Stanley Cup winner and are built for the playoffs. They are on an 8 game win streak! Heck, even go after Robert Thomas who is apparently their top line center now. Can he really sustain those recent game numbers? This team is bonkers.

There is really no reason to swap Dobson given his cost/value ratio. We still want some offensive power for our second guy rather than relying totally on peripherals so we are taking a swing on Rasmus Dahlin. His breakout season is overshadowed by a few other details and the fact that he is not fully elite as the cool kids say, but he is getting a lot of assists. Torey Krug offers a similar upside and is top power play on the Blues. He scored a goal against the Bruins, his former team, and he is locked in as their top guy.

Let’s work our way up to the best winger by going cheap first and seeing what’s left at the end. There is no need to spend below $4,00 today. Ilya Mikheyev and Matt Boldy will be the lowest you need to go. We talk about Mikheyev infrequently because he is a bit of a mystery. We do not understand his ceiling, but we know his floor is high. He is on the second line right now and he will make the most of it while William Nylander deals with his demotion to the third. We are high fiving Boldy for giving Evander Kane the other day and then donating everything that people tried to Venmo to him to cover the ensuing fine. He is also on a several game point streak. It is not the highest scoring one, but this dude is heating up.

Who on the Ducks will be scoring today? Will it be wunderkind Troy Terry or grizzled veteran Adam Henrique? Take a peek at their stats and see which one piques your interest. It may initially be an obvious Terry choice due to the three game goal streak, but Henrique can offer a little more consistency.

We are going to go sub $4,000 for our utility player. If you stick with the Islanders, you may as well toss Anders Lee on there. This dude scores goals and would sure love to stretch and hit the 30 goal mark. Scoring tonight would make that much more viable. If you want a peek at the future in Columbus, Jack Roslovic has been having some big games. A hat trick game followed up by a two goal game is tough for anyone in the league. This kid is going places.

How much do you have left over? Timo Meier is one shiny prize we hate to pass up given the opportunity. He had an absolutely monster year and is not finished. Actually, there is no one else in his range we want. Just take Timo.
