NHL DFS Picks For April 12, 2022

Auston Matthews
TAMPA, FL - DECEMBER 13: Toronto Maple Leafs center Austin Matthews (34) shoots wide as Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilevsky (88) scrambles across the goal in attempt to make a save during the first period of an NHL game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning on December 13, 2018, at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL. Playoff spots are getting locked up, but we do not think that teams will be resting starters anytime soon. Records are made to be broken and a few are falling this season. Every point still matters for seeding and home-ice advantage come the postseason. From here on out, consider any game we hype up to be a playoff-level bout. Things are getting serious.

Here’s a leafy lineup For DFS Hockey on 4/12/22 (using DraftKings Values)

A week ago, the hockey media world was talking about Auston Matthews scoring 60 goals. That has already been updated after he scored 7 goals to push him into the 70 conversations. He costs $800 more than Connor McDavid who has owned the spot for nearly two years, with only a couple of blips. You can save on Matthews by taking McDavid…that’s insane.

There is no way you can afford him and Mitch Marner both so we are putting in Michael Bunting instead. He is in the conversation for rookie of the year and has been consistently taking advantage of playing with the new best player in the world.

It’s hard to lose as a goalie when you are guaranteed a hundred goals from your best player in a single game. Eric Kallgren has one of the cushiest backup jobs in the league. Though, it does feel like he is technically the starter going forward with Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek dealing with injuries. They will ride this hot hand as long as possible in an attempt to get Campbell healthy for the playoffs.

You could of course take McDavid here as we hinted at, but we feel really good about Alexander Barkov tonight. He had a quiet last game, which means fewer people will be taking him, giving him some slightly better margins on victory. The Ducks are out of contention and the Panthers are dialing in these last two weeks.

Ilya Sorokin is one of the best goalies in the NHL and you probably have not heard his name tossed around as such. This phenom from Russia has all the accolades from the KHL and only has a couple more items to check off his list. The Islanders are playing the Penguins who are going through a bit of a stumble and who also just lost Evgeni Malkin to a four-game suspension.

John Carlson is hot, hot, hot right now. Washington appears to be pulling out of its own little tailspin and is pushing Alex Ovechkin to historic highs in goals. If you take Carlson with our super-secret weapon today, your defensive corp will be solid and for a great average price between the two. If you need a middle option, go for Ryan Pulock who is up to his old antics of lots of shots and blocks. Do not worry about goals or assists with them, those are just gravy.

There is a huge block of amazingly priced wingers and we are not going to name them all. We will only highlight Jakub Vrana and Kevin Fiala. Vrana is coming off a multi-goal effort and Fiala is heating back up with a push towards 25 goals and 40 points.

We do not normally go for guys three times in a row, but Robert Thomas vividly remembers the last game against the Bruins that he played. Well, maybe, he got effing rocked in that one. Find a clip of Torey Krug flying down the ice without his helmet and absolutely destroying Thomas. This is going to be a spicy game.

That should leave plenty for another baller winger. We are looking at Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane. Both have just been terrifying net-front presences. Kane is the more physical one, but Pavelski always finds a way to get a tip on the puck and score. There’s nothing you can really do about it.

Owen Power was the first overall selection in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Towering at 6’6” he is a great skater and produces offensively. Being less than a year from his draft and getting this debut which will burn a year on his rookie contract means the Sabres have full faith in him. We are excited, this kid could be something special.

Is it Taco Tuesday already? We did not end up making any last week and we are fiending. These may need a nice margarita to go with them. Do not miss our NBA playoff picks over on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX)! Cheers
