NFL DFS Main Slate Defense Advice – Week 17

Teddy Bridgewater
DENVER, CO - OCTOBER 17: Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (5) gets pressured by Las Vegas Raiders defensive tackle Damion Square (97) during a NFL game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Denver Broncos on October 17, 2021 at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, CO. The COVID List has surpassed 200 players this week and counting, and is a useful tool in deciding on our defense plays in DFS. As we approach the slate this Sunday we need to stay informed on who is starting in place of who when it comes to the very contagious virus. For example, Monday night the Saints were destroyed at home by the Dolphins because of them losing both starting and back up quarterbacks, forcing them to start rookie Ian Book who looked like a deer in headlights on the field, allowing Miami’s D to put up 28 FPTS. This week we may have more of the same:

Las Vegas Raiders ($2,700 DK/$3,400 FD) They have a tough matchup on paper, but Colts’ quarterback Carson Wentz tested positive and is unvaccinated, which most likely will force him to sit out on Sunday. Unknown rookie Sam Ehlinger will get the start if Wentz cannot submit two negative tests prior to kickoff, and Vegas could produce double digit fantasy points. The Colts may also be without starting offensive lineman also due to the virus, which will give stud running back Jonathon Taylor even more of an uphill road on top of a lot of stacked boxes.

Tampa Bay Bucs ($4,300 DK/$4,900 FD) Brady and the defending champs are in the Tri-State area this weekend to beat up on the Jets. The Bucs will be getting some players back off the COVID list on defense and should easily shut down New York’s young and injured offense. If you have the cap space spend away.

New England Patriots ($3,900 DK/$5,000 FD) Belichick will look to take out his frustrations on the Jaguars after suffering a tough loss at home to the Bills last week at home, losing position in the AFC Division. Aside from being bad, Jacksonville is also dealing with a COVID outbreak of their own in their organization. This game wreaks of a shut out, turnover filled game, pay up if you can squeeze in the Pats.

Buffalo Bills ($3,500 DK/$4,500 FD) The Bills are looking to lock up the AFC East, but Atlanta is looking to sneak into the playoff picture. Colder weather is here, and the elements of nature are becoming a factor in football this time of year. The Falcons are a dome team who practice and play at home in a comfortable environment, which may put a damper on Matt Ryan holding on to the football in below freezing temperatures this Sunday in Upstate New York. A nice middle priced option too.

New Orleans Saints ($3,400 DK/$4,700 FD) The Saints will look to rebound from their embarrassing loss at home to the Dolphins. But it was not the defenses fault, who racked up the sacks and interception, but of rookie QB Ian Book. Carolina has struggled at quarterback all season, and have a three-headed monster in Cam Newton, Sam Darnold, and Phillip Walker. The Saints will put pressure on whoever Carolina decides on rolling with, and will most likely force a few turnovers.

Avoid Paying Up For:

Seattle Seahawks ($3,300 DK/$4,400 FD) Seattle is hosting Detroit, who refuse to go down without a fight these days. Jared Goff and DeAndre Swift will be back this week and should keep the Seahawks honest by putting some points on the board. Detroit is not the same punching bag as they were early on in the year.

Super Cheap Punt Play:

Washington Football Team ($2,500 DK/$3,800 FD) They were embarrassed on prime time tv Sunday night, the fighting amongst themselves on the bench went viral on social media. If you have to spend down and can not afford to pay up this week on defense, than let’s hope Jaylen Hurts coughs up the football, which he has been known to do. The Eagles will be light on the running back position this Sunday as Miles Sanders suffered a broken hand and Jordan Howard has a stinger issue. Hurts may have to run it more himself this Sunday, on an ankle that is still not 100 percent. Pay down and hope for the best on Washington, but maybe you will be able to spend up this week.
