We are back with the NBA action tonight. The Allstar break gave the players some needed rest time and allowed us to catch up on some strategy. We are coming back to a small one, just two games of NBA action to break down. As of now we do not have any significant injury news and it is looking like the value will be dry today. Our strategy for today involves trying to roster as many top end studs as possible, as there is a significant drop off in production at lower prices. We have built a stars and scrubs lineup for tonight. Highlighting our favorite pay up options and the few value plays that look solid.
Here’s a stars and scrubs lineup For DFS Basketball 3/10/21 (using DraftKings Values)
Point Guard | L. Doncic | $10,700
Shooting Guard | $9,400 | ||
Small Forward | D. Brooks | $5,400
Power Forward | D. Avdija | $3,100
Center | $7,100 | ||
Guard | $7,800 | ||
Forward | G. Mathews | $3,300
Utility | $3,100 |
With only two games today, we do not have a ton of superstars competing for the top performance. Luka Doncic is a cut above the rest today and will likely be a must play even at the $10.700 price tag. Doncic is averaging 56.6 FPTS per game this season, six FPTS more then anyone else on the slate. Doncic has crazy upside and a decent matchup with the Spurs. Doncic is our favorite spend up today as his upside is unrivaled on the slate. We expect high ownership on Doncic tonight, and we definitely want to pick somewhere else to get different.
The Grizzlies is our favorite team to target tonight due to there matchup with the Wizards. Washington have been playing at the fastest pace in the league lately and allow a ton of total points. We have some solid pricing on a few grizzlies, especially Dillon Brooks. Brooks is only $5,400 tonight despite having a few massive games before the break. Brooks scored over 50 FPTS last game and typically gets a lot of usage for Memphis. Brooks has a great matchup tonight and is a little too cheap for how good he is.
On most slates this season, we have better value plays then Deni Avdija. However tonight his upside is too good to turn down at $3.100. Avdija has showed he can score over 20 FPTS, which would probably land him in the optimal lineup tonight. We like betting on Avidja’s minutes moving forward as the rookie will surely get his chance at some point. Avdija does have some bad games, but he is the type of risk we need to take to fit in multiple stars.
Garrison Mathews has found his way into the Wizards starting lineup. Mathews is a punt play as he has not produced very well. However, he is one of the few cheap plays today who should get solid run. Mathews does not need to do much at $3,300, as playing multiple stars tonight gives us a lot of upside. If more value opens, Mathews is a good guy to pivot away from. However as of now he is a somewhat solid minutes option at near minimum price. We do not have many better options.
Now what do you get if you sign up now?
• A few midrange studs who are in a great spot.
• Another stud we are all over tonight
• Different options for more balanced lineups.
Bradley Beal – SG (9,400 DK) Beal is averaging over 50 FPTS per game this season so we are getting him at a nice discount tonight. On a slate this small we want one of the Washington stars, and Beal is a lot easier to fit in then Russell Westbrook. Beal scored 52.3 FPTS last game and is averaging 50.6 FPTS over the last ten days. We will not need anything crazy to cash tonight, so we love getting stars who should be good for over five times value. Beal is leading the league in real points and has a solid matchup against the Grizzlies.
Jonas Valanciunas – C ($7.100 DK) We want to get all the Memphis heavy hitters we can tonight with the great matchup. Washington plays some subpar centers and Valanciunas should be able to dominate inside. This is a great pace up spot, and we are still getting Valanciunas at a great price. Valanciunas has some great upside as he really stuffs the stat sheet in his time on the floor. Valanciunas should benefit from being well rested tonight and we can’t turn down a smash game from him on a slate like this.
Ja Morant – G ($7,800 DK) Morant is probably our favorite of many Grizzlies plays tonight as he is still way too cheap for what he does. Morant scored well over 50 FPTS in both of his last two games, yet we are still getting him under $8,000. The pace up Washington matchup is always great, and we often see athletic guards like Morant receive the biggest boost. Morant is cheap enough to play alongside two or even three of the top end studs, with some monster upside of his own.
Tyus Jones – Util ($3,100 DK) Jones is another play we would likely overlook on a slate with more value, however he is pretty cheap for his production. Jones is near minimum priced despite averaging over 21 FPTS a game this season. Jones is averaging 18,4 FPTS over the last ten days and has solid upside. If Jones gets decent floor time tonight, he should be one of the best value plays on the slate. Jones is also benefiting from the Wizards matchup, which makes him one of our favorite value options.
Alternative Moves…
Russell Westbrook– G ($10,100 DK) Westbrook is another star that looks solid tonight. Westbrook is the best producer on the slate behind Doncic and has some of the best upside in the league with triple doubles. The only problem with the Westbrook play tonight is we prefer Doncic at a similar price.
Keldon Johnson – F ($5,100 DK) Johnson looks great in this spot as he is too cheap. Johnson is averaging over 28 FPTS a season and should be at least $500 more. Coach Popovich has expressed his intention for Johnson to play big minutes and he is a great on floor producer. Johnson is a great option if you are looking to play a more midrange lineup with less value players.
Good luck tonight, this is an ugly slate but at least the injury news is manageable. Keep an eye on starting lineups as something atypical can create some unseen value.
