NBA DFS Advice for January 15, 2022

DeMar Rozan DFS
LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 03: San Antonio Spurs forward DeMar DeRozan (10) against LA Clippers guard Paul George (13) during the NBA regular season basketball game on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Calif. (Photo by Ric Tapia/Icon Sportswire)

We have another nine-game NBA DFS slate tonight, with a lot more injuries to discuss on this one. We have some huge names out across the slate, with Bradley Beal, Zach Lavine, Damian Lillard, and Anthony Davis among many other sidelined. We have a ton of value tonight, and a lot of value all the way around the minimum price. As a result, we are looking at a stars and scrubs style build here, where we can really use our salary loosely. Our favorite teams here are the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls, but we like at least one guy from a lot of teams tonight.

Here’s Two Core Plays For DFS Basketball 1/15/22 (using DraftKings Values)

Point Guard
Shooting Guard
Small ForwardT. Brown Jr. $3,000
Power ForwardD. DeRozan $8,500

There is a lot to like from the Chicago Bulls here, as everyone’s price is adjusted for when Lavine is taking minutes and usage. We saw Troy Brown Jr. as one of the main recipients of Lavine’s minutes last game, with 27. Brown was extremely unproductive in his time on the floor, with only 5.75 FPTS. However, we do not expect him to turn in literally zero real points in any game with this much floor time. He should start tonight and is too cheap if he is going to play for around 30 minutes.

We expect the Bulls to be a bit under-owned here, as a lot of them were unproductive last night when Lavine only played a few minutes. However, the Bulls were totally outclassed by Golden State and a predictable blowout loss occurred. Tonight’s matchup against the Boston Celtics promises to remain much closer, and we like a lot from the Windy City. DeMar DeRozan is another priority for us at $8,500. DeRozan is in the MVP conversation this season for his timely scoring to lead the Bulls to wins. He is going to have to do a ton offensively here, and he is the perfect guy built for that task.

Here’s a Fade DFS Basketball 1/15/22 (using DraftKings Values)

The Atlanta Hawks that were gutted top to bottom a few weeks ago are getting back to full health, so there is a lot less value to be had. Trae Young is among the guys we are passing on from the Hawks here, as we have a ton of guys we would rather spend up for. Young has been doing a bit less since a few of the other perimeter options came back, and his production has dropped significantly. Furthermore, the Hawks have a slow matchup against the Knicks tonight, so we are happy looking elsewhere.

Point Guard

Spencer Dinwiddie – ($6,800 DK) Dinwiddie was only ok last game with 30 FPTS, but our expectations are always much higher when he is going to be playing without Bradley Beal. Dinwiddie shot poorly last time, and he only went for 4 assists. He usually picks up closer to ten dimes when he has the ball in his hands without Beal, and we have seen him go over 40 or 50 FPTS more often than not in these opportunities.

Shooting Guard

Anfernee Simons – ($7,200 DK) Simons missed the last game due to some personal issues, leaving the Blazers with almost no available guards. We expect him to get right back to doing everything like he was before missing last game, and he was really doing everything. Simons has gone over 45 FPTS in four of the past five games since Lillard and McCollum have both been out.

Small Forward

De’Andre Hunter  ($3,000 DK) Hunter was a budget priority for us last time around as he is too cheap returning from injury. Hunter saw 29.3 minutes on the floor and went for 30 FPTS. He has been priced down to $3,000 here, which makes him a lock for value. Hunter really does not need to do much to hit value here, and the price allows us a ton of flexibility elsewhere.

Power Forward

Kyle Kuzma – ($8,100 DK) We can sleep on the Kuzma bull run no longer. Kuzma has been crushing over the past few weeks. He has gone over 40 FPTS for a mind-boggling eight straight contests, and he has shown some of the best upside in the league through that span. We cannot bet on the Kuzma gravy train stopping while Beal is sidelined, as he should take on massive scoring responsibilities. His price is high here, but his play merits the inflated price.

Jusuf Nurkic – ($7,800 DK) The Blazers got killed last time in a 32-point loss against Denver. The loss was not a surprise with all their injuries, but we do expect them to keep it close against the Wizards without Beal tonight. Nurkic has a ton of upside here in a good matchup, as we expect him to do a lot more offensively. He is a guy who can easily put together 50 FPTS, and we need that huge upside on this kind of slate.

General strategy

We have a ton of cheap value tonight, as our strong $3,000 plays define what our lineup will look like. We are plugging in Hunter and Brown tonight, which leaves us with the salary to easily roster every spend-up priority we have mentioned throughout the article. With priorities in a ton of different directions tonight we are going with a similar strategy for Cash and GPP’s as a lot of these guys are going to be less owned than you might imagine. Good luck tonight and keep an eye on the incoming news as always.
