PHILADELPHIA, PA - SEPTEMBER 20: Toronto Blue Jays left fielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (13) beats the tag and gets back to third base against Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jean Segura (2) during the Major League Baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Toronto Blue Jays on September 20, 2020 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA. We have just five games on the slate for opening day with the first pitch at 7:05 PM EST. Today’s slate of games is highlighted by Freddie Freeman  and the Los Angeles Dodgers taking on C.J. Cron and the Colorado Rockies in the thin mountain air of  Colorado.

Weather shouldn’t be a problem as no game has a higher than 20 percent chance of rain in today’s slate of games.

Here is a selection of today’s Core Players 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 4/9/22 (using DraftKings Values)

PitcherJoe Musgrove$9,400

CatcherKeibert Ruiz $3,800
First BaseFreddie Freeman$4,800

Joe Musgrove ($9,400) – This is a nice price for Musgrove, who almost got the start opening day for the Padres. They think very highly of their young upcoming star and for good reason. Musgrove is coming off a season in which he posted a 3.13 ERA with 203 strikeouts across less than 180 innings. Today, Musgrove gets a great matchup with the thin roster of Arizona.

Keibert Ruiz ($3,800) – Ruiz is an upcoming young future All-Star for the Nationals. He was acquired near the trade deadline last season as a prospect from the Dodgers, and has been starting for the Nationals since. In his short time in the majors last season, he hit .273 ,while showing phenomenal skill behind the plate. This spring he showed better contact posting an OPS over 1.000, with a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs in 8 games. Ruiz is off to a hot start this season after starting his first career opening day, with back-to-back two hit games. Ruiz is locked in the middle of the lineup for the Nationals batting fifth. Today he’ll face Chris Bassett and the Mets.

Freddie Freeman ($4,800) – Freeman signed with the Dodgers just before the season started, and he’s poised for another great season. Freeman is a career .300 hitter, while also hitting for power. One of the best all around hiters in baseball, he’s always a great addition to DFS lineups. Today, look for him to take advantage of a matchup with the Rockies in Colorado.

The Pitchers

Justin Verlander  ($9,600 DK) Verlander is coming off Tommy John surgery, however, he proved in spring training he is just fine. In 3 spring starts, Verlander struck out 11 batters in eight and two thirds scoreless innings, while holding opposing hitters to a lowly .167 batting average. The thirty-nine year old Verlander will look to continue his dominance in Los Angeles against the Angels.comes into this game as the highest price pitcher on the slate, and for good re

Jose Berrios ($8,900 DK) – With is a nice price for Berrios starting at home. He should have an energetic home crowd behind him, and with all of the Rangers moves in the off season, they could struggle offensively early in the season.

The Value Players

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. ($4,200) – Gurriel is bit of an underrated hitter who is in what should be a very good Toronto lineup. On top of that this will be Jon Gray’s first start after changing leagues which could lead to lots of runs for the Blue Jays.

Matt Duffy ($3,800) – Duffy had a nice game for the Angels yesterday with a couple of hits for the Angels, who should have a productive lineup when everyone is healthy, and they should see a lot of the Astros bullpen today with Jake Odorizzi starting today who typically doesn’t go much past the 5th inning in his starts.

Guillermo Heredia ($2,700) –  Heredia hits left-handed pitchers really well. Last year he hit 50 points better with his batting average and nearly 100 points on his slugging percentage against left-handed pitching. He isn’t going to cost you much, and you won’t need a lot from him to get to value either.

The Stacks

Toronto Blue Jays – With the Blue Jays off season additions you can really stack almost any part of their lineup from top to bottom. You should look to base your stack though on one or both of their higher priced players in Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Bo Bichette, as they offer the most upside. And then mix and match from there with the likes of George Springer, Teoscar Hernandez, Lourdes Gurriel Jr, and Matt Chapman.

San Diego Padres – The Padres have a high implied run total today at 5, which means their stacks should be considered. For me, I want to look at some combination of Jake Cronenworth, Manny Machado, Luke Voit, and Wil Myers.

New York Mets – The Mets have the second highest implied run total today at 5.1. Their stacks should consist of Starling Marte, Francisio Lindor, and Pete Alonso, but you could add in Eduardo Escobar or Mark Canha if you are looking for some salary relief.
