Welcome hockey geeks and DFS players to the second round of the NHL playoffs. The field has been narrowed to eight teams trying to earn the hardest trophy to win in sports. The Stanley Cup playoffs have already had tons of drama and excitement with teeth lost, jaws broken and overtime insanity. It only gets better from here.

We are giving you an update on how DraftKings and FanDuel are modifying their contests with a much smaller pool of players to choose from and how that will affect our daily pick ‘em format. The first thing to know is that there are fewer picks to be made so prices per player have gone way up. The standard format is now this; choose a captain who will score you 1.5x points. Then choose four or five utility players depending on which platform you are on.

DraftKings has five utility spots which includes goalies. Their budget is $50,000 so for six players the average player you can afford is going to be $8,333. This is going to mean you get one maybe two studs and then you will have to go bargain hunting. Don’t worry though, that is what we are here for.

FanDuel has four spots and does not include goalies. Their budget is $55,000 so for five players the average player you can afford is going to be $11,000. This is a huge difference given that the players prices are still roughly the same between the two sites. Your dollar will go further on FanDuel but with our help DraftKings will have more opportunity to win because you have the experts helping you out rather than relying on top skaters.

The way this changes how we bring picks to you is that we will be choosing our own captain and then putting together a pool of players that you should be able to get under budget with and still make some decisions on taking your favorite players. There will be a couple times where we are split on picks but due to differences in prices will suggest who we like between DraftKings and FanDuel.

We are working hard here finding you the best bang for your buck and the sleepers that are about to explode into stardom. Stick with us and we’ll help you blaze a path to glory. Go out there and polish your crown you legends.
