DFS NHL Fantasy Hockey Picks For September 17, 2020

Yanni Gourde NHL
TORONTO, ON - MARCH 10: Tampa Bay Lightning Winger Yanni Gourde (37) shoots the puck during warm up before the NHL regular season game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 10, 2020, at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON, Canada. (Photo by Julian Avram/Icon Sportswire)

The New York Islanders continue to hand on by a thread boosted by the fact that the Lightning are starting to get pretty beat up. Uncertainty surrounding Brayden Point and even Nikita Kucherov make their job much harder. Will they be able to force a game seven? Can Varlamov keep up his unreal goaltending in the face of the Lightning onslaught? Read on to see who we think comes out on top and which players will be the one to put your team on top of the fantasy standings.

If you are looking for a low cost option that will have a lot of upside then check out Yanni Gourde ($5,600 DK, $9,000 FD). He has moved up to the second line center position while Anthony Cirelli has moved up to the top line. He has eight points in his last ten games and is now going to see even more ice time. He will be flanked by solid wingers in Blake Coleman and Barclay Goodrow and they will look to take the pressure off the top.

Behind the paywall we have some other depth players that will be given ample opportunity to succeed. Come see who we have picked out to score big in a game to go to the finals.

Captain DFS Pick For September 17, 2020

Even without Point one cannot discount Nikita Kucherov ($16,800 DK, $15,500 FD) forever. We avoided him last game and while he didn’t score he did manage five shots on net. With Cirelli as his center he will have more than enough room to score and you can’t keep him down for long. We expect that he comes out with a vengeance tonight to finally silence Long Island.

Flex DFS Picks For September 17, 2020

The Islanders face a tough test tonight and they will be looking at some of their depth to help them out. The top line can’t do it all and so they will need Brock Nelson ($8,400 DK, $12,500 FD) to continue to battle and grind out points for them. He is sitting on a cool ten points in his last ten games and we love that consistency. He will be out there with Anthony Beauvillier tearing it up and giving the Lightnings depth nightmares.

Continuing down the chart we come back to one of our favorite sneaky picks in Jean Gabriel Pageau ($7,400 DK, $8,500 FD). This guy is a second line center on most teams and even a first in some cases. Here he is living low key on the Islanders third line and using every second on the ice to do damage. He has been a little quiet lately but with everything on the line we expect him to show up tonight.

We come back around to a couple Lightning players to choose from that are undervalued for what they bring to the table. Anthony Cirelli ($6,000 DK, $7,500 FD) has moved up to the top line to center Nikita Kucherov and has been sorely lacking in points. He is a fantastic two way player that may win the Selke award in the next couple years and now is the time for his scoring drought to end.

To get a full spread of the Lightning squad we are reaching for Alex Killorn ($5,800 DK, $8,500 FD). The third line is looking for a boost to their play and Carter Verhaege has moved up to help him and Tyler Johnson. We think we will be picking Verhaege a bit next year but this is a fresh opportunity for this line and we think will be a good matchup against the Islanders depth.

Avoid DFS Picks For September 17, 2020

Even with a ton of time on ice and scoring an assist Mat Barzal did not light up the fantasy board the way we wanted him to. There is a lot of pressure on that line right now and we are not sure if he is up to the task. Solving Andrei Vasilevski is tough to do and while he may chip in we do not see him as worth his price right now.

Keep those picks rolling in and keep your eyes glued to the screen because you won’t want to miss any of the action tonight.
