The first round has come to a close with a decisive Vancouver win over St. Louis. The speedy young team has taken down the champs and is pressing on to fight the Golden Knights. As the crowd has thinned so have the games we get to pick from which has changed up the format. DraftKings and FanDuel have moved to the captain and five utility spots matchups. Maximizing value for that can be especially difficult with prices going up so much. We will take care of the research and you just get out there and make your picks. We have you covered.

Staying under budget and still producing points can be difficult but we have a free deep pick for you today that should boost your confidence. Ian Cole ($6,000 DK, $6,000 FD) is not going to put in any goals and is unlikely to be involved in assists. If he does it’s all gravy but don’t discount the shots he takes and the blocks he makes. Those peripheral stats are more consistent than any point scorer other than MacKinnon. Let him support your team for cheap.

Captain DFS Pick For 8/22/20

Nathan MacKinnon ($16,800 DK, $16,500 FD) may not actually be the captain of the Avalanche yet but he is the captain of our fantasy squad. He is the best player on the ice the second he is over the boards. With how consistent he is we have to put him in there and look to make the biggest splash.

Utility DFS Picks For 8/22/20

Even though positions do not matter now we are still going to spread our picks all across the ice. Miro Heiskanen ($11,700 DK, $10,500 FD) and Cale Makar ($12,600 DK, $10,000 FD) are two guys we are always trying to get if we can. In DraftKings we would snag Heiskanen and bank that extra $900 and over on FanDuel we are saving a cool $500 and taking Makar. They are both the future of the blue line for these two teams and we wish we didn’t have to choose between them.

Our next selection is another split between the two platforms. From DraftKings we are taking Denis Gurianov ($8,700) and on FanDuel we are going with Roope Hintz ($7,500). Both Stars wingers are sharpshooters and are known for getting more goals than assists. They will be on the hunt to figure out the Avalanche’s defense.

Looking to the middle of the pack for value we like Joonas Donskoi ($7,800 DK, $7,500 FD). He is sitting on Nazem Kadri’s wing and Naz has been on fire lately. If Donskoi can keep feeding Kadri goals you will see a ton of return on this investment.

Coming way under average on price but with the potential for points we really like J.T. Compher ($5,400 DK, $7,500 FD). Over the course of the season he has moved as far up as the second line center when injuries hit and he performed admirably. He has still shown he can strike gold as he did last game getting a goal and an assist.

Avoid DFS Picks For 8/22/20

With two teams scoring at a torrid pace and FanDuel not even allowing goalies as a utility spot we are staying away from the guys in net today. Goals against hurt quite a bit so we will leave it to the skaters to score us all our points.

Take care and get yourself pumped for the second round. The action only gets better from here.
