Shohei Ohtani
ANAHEIM, CA - APRIL 21: Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (17) celebrates after his home run during a MLB game between the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on April 21, 2021 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, CA. (Photo by Brian Rothmuller/Icon Sportswire)

We have fourteen games today with the first pitch at 7:05 PM EST. Today’s slate of games is highlighted by Yordan Alvarez and the Houston Astros, taking on Fernando Tatis Jr. and the San Diego Padres in San Diego. The highest implied run totals tonight sit with the Atlanta Braves (6.4), Cincinnati Reds (5.8), and the New York Yankees (5.5).

We shouldn’t see any weather-related delays or postponements today with the chances of rain below 20 percent for all of today’s games.

Here is a selection of today’s Core Players 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 9/03/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherShohei Ohtani $8,700
 Pitcher
 Catcher
 First BaseJosh Bell $4,100
 Second BaseJonathan India $4,500
 Third Base
 Short StopTrevor Story $5,600
 Outfield
 OutfieldNick Castellanos $5,100
 Outfield

Shohei Ohtani – P ($8,700) – This is a great price for Ohtani. He has only given up more than two runs once in his last five outings, and he has struck out no less than six batters in that span while going five innings in each of those starts.

Josh Bell – 1B ($4,100) – Bell has hits in nine straight games and he has multi-hit games in four of his last five games with two doubles and two home runs in those five games.

Jonathan India – 2B  ($4,500) – The use of India today is about three things. First, the Reds are at home where they score lots of runs, two they will be facing a Tigers starter who has an ERA over 4, and lastly, he leads off for this team that is expected to score lots of runs and face an average pitcher.

Trevor Story – SS ($5,600) – Story has multi-hit games in three of his last five games including a game last night where he also chipped in a steal. When the Rockies are at home you need to consider Story.

Nick Castellanos –OF ($5,100)  – In Castellanos’ last five games, he has three multi-hit games, including back-to-back games. In his most recent game, he also added two home runs and six RBI, and with the Reds, at home, we could see more fireworks from Castellanos.

The Pitchers

Vladimir Gutierrez ($8,500 DK) While Cincinnati isn’t a great place to pitch, Gutierrez will face a Tigers team today that has only getting on-base 28 percent of the time, while Gutierrez has struck out at least six batters in each of his last three home starts.

Kyle Gibson ($8,100) – With Gibson’s lack of strikeout upside, he isn’t likely to put up big numbers for you. However, he typically doesn’t give up a lot of runs, and he will be facing a struggling Marlins lineup today, and he will be pitching in a pitcher’s park in Miami as well.

Adam Wainwright  ($10,000) – Wainwright hasn’t given up a run in three of his last four starts while striking out as many as nine batters in those four starts. He has had success against the Brewers this season as well, having not given up more than two runs in any of his starts against them.

The Value Players

Jorge Alfaro – C ($2,900) – Alfaro has hits in five of his last six starts with two doubles and a home run. At this price, he is worth taking a chance on, as he certainly isn’t facing an ace in Kyle Gibson.

Josh Donaldson  – 3B ($3,800) – Donaldson has hits in three of his five games with two doubles and a home run, and he will be facing Michael Wacha who has an ERA near six.

Tyler Naquin – OF($2,900) – Naquin is a player who we have seen get hot and hit for extra bases in bulk. With the Reds at home, getting cheap players who hit at the top of their lineup.

The Stacks

Cincinnati Reds – We have talked about Naquin, Castellanos and India, which gives you a well-rounded piece of the top of the Reds lineup who is expected to score the most runs tonight.

Atlanta Braves – When it comes to the Braves, I would look to Freddie Freeman, Austin Riley and Dansby Swanson, but if you need to save some budget you can look to Jorge Soler or Adam Duvall who hit for lots of power.

Colorado Rockies – We know about Story, but you can look at using C.J Cron who is hitting well, and if you want to save some budget you can look at someone like Garrett Hampson who has been known to get hot put up big nights.
