DFS MLB Baseball Picks for May 27, 2021

We’ve got a six-game slate for Thursday, which could turn into a five-game one. That’s unfortunate because the one pitcher I wanted to pick on is in that game. Pitching is tough today as there are no studs and the options at top don’t have the greatest matchups. CIN, BAL, and LAA are projected for fewer than four runs. CHW and STL are projected for at least five runs while no teams projected for fewer than three runs. SF/LAD have not had their lines released yet.

Tons of rain forecasted for the BAL/CHW game.

Here’s our 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 5/27/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherAlex Wood $6,900
 Pitcher
 CatcherYadier Molina $4,100
 First BasePaul Goldschmidt $4,100
 Second Base
 Third Base
 Short StopBrandon Crawford $4,100
 OutfieldDylan Carlson $3,100

Salary Remaining          $800

Alex Wood ($6,900)

The Dodgers have struggled against left-handed pitching all season long. It’s a really strange phenomenon. They are 9th in strikeouts and only 25th in ISO against lefties. Wood is a lefty and he just faced the Dodgers five days ago, allowing two earned runs in six innings with seven strikeouts.

Yadier Molina ($4,100)

We are attacking Matt Peacock and the Diamondbacks bullpen. Peacock has pitched 22 innings this season and allowed four home runs while striking out only 15 batters. Molina has seven home runs and the slash is .288/.323/.542 with a .254 ISO. Once Peacock is out of the game, the Arizona bullpen has the eighth-highest FIP.

Paul Goldschmidt ($4,100)

Goldschmidt bats third for the Cardinals and we are stacking against the Arizona pitching staff. He has six home runs and two stolen bases on the season. The ISO is .151and the slash is .254/.307/.405. He’s a far cry from the MVP-esque days in Arizona but he still possesses pop and will drive in runs.

Brandon Crawford ($4,100)

Crawford has 11 home runs and three stolen bases on the season. The slash is .261/.338/.545 with a .284 ISO. It will be a bullpen game for the Dodgers so the pitching won’t be as daunting. He has notched at least one hit in 12 of the last 14 games.

Dylan Carlson ($3,100)

Carlson only has a .127 ISO and three home runs on the season. He’s not a bopper anyways as the career ISO is .142. That said, he gets on base and scores runs. The walk rate is 10.8 percent while the slash is .285/.371/.411. We are stacking the Cardinals against Arizona pitching and Carlson bats second in the order.

Here’s our full 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 5/27/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherAlex Wood $6,900
 PitcherChris Bassitt $8,300
 CatcherYadier Molina $4,100
 First BasePaul Goldschmidt $4,100
 Second BaseTommy Edman $4,800
 Third BaseNolan Arenado $5,700

 OutfieldDylan Carlson $3,100
 OutfieldKetel Marte $4,800
 OutfieldAdolis Garcia $3,600

Salary Remaining          $800

Chris Bassitt ($8,300)

Bassitt has struck out 65 batters in 61 innings while only allowing five home runs. The FIP is 3.16 while the strikeout rate is 11.6 percent. The Mariners strike out the seventh-most times against right-handed pitching. I told you the pitching was gross today.

Tommy Edman ($4,800)

Edman hit two home runs yesterday so he has pop but that’s not why we like him. First, he bats leadoff for our Cardinals stack. Past that, he has four home runs, nine stolen bases, and has scored 23 runs. The strikeout rate is only 10.1 percent and the slash is .270/.323/.365. He has multiple paths to providing fantasy goodies.

Nolan Arenado ($5,700)

No Coors Field? No problem as Arenado has a .289/.340/.540 slash with a .251 ISO. The strikeout rate is only 13.3 percent and he has 10 home runs and 32 RBI on the season. He bats cleanup for out Cardinals stack.

Ketel Marte ($4,800)

Since returning from injury, Marte has three hits in 19 plate appearances. He’s a .290 hitter with 20 home run power and 10 stolen base speed. The career ISO is .164. He bats lead off for the Diamondbacks and is going to get hot at some point. Carlos Martinez has been good keeping the ball in the yard but the control can waver from time to time. Marte can wreak havoc on the base path so multiple paths to fantasy goodies.

Adolis Garcia ($3,600)

Garcia has 16 home runs and five home runs on the season. He’s priced at $3,600. Uh, yeah. The slash is .290/.327/.613 and the BABIP is .316 so the good fortune hasn’t been excessive. I don’t care who’s pitching for Seattle. He’s $3,600.

Alternative Moves…

Jesse Winker – OF ($5,500 DK) – Winker has 13 home runs on the season. The walk rate is eight percent while the strikeout rate is only 20.1 percent. The slash is .346/.402/.667 with the ISO at .321. Now, the BABIP is .378 so some regression should he expected but he’s white hot right now. Stephen Strasburg has only pitched 15 innings this season but he has been worse against lefties than righties.

Chris Flexen – P ($6,200 DK)

The Rangers are 5th in strikeouts against right-handed pitching. The swinging strike rate is only 7.7 percent for Flexen and he’s struck out 24 in 40.2 innings but he’s only walked nine batters. The range is super wide with Flexen. He just got shelled by the Padres, putting up -16.9 DKFP but he also has a 28.2 game against the Red Sox and a 23.7 game against the Giants.
