DFS MLB Baseball Picks for June 10, 2021

Giancarlo Stanton

We’ve got a six-game slate for Thursday. Max Scherzer is THE pitcher on today’s slate. Unfortunately, there are serious weather concerns in that game. I don’t mind, though, as two pitchers right below him are more than worthy. Since we are paying up at pitching today, we had to be judicious in allocating our money on bats but we were able to squeeze in a couple of studs. SF, COL, and KC are projected for fewer than four runs. No teams are projected for at least five runs. No teams are projected for fewer than three runs. The NYY/MIN game hasn’t had their lines posted yet.

Tons of rain in the forecast for the SF/WAS game. Sad face.

Here’s our 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 6/10/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherHyun Jin Ryu $9,700
 Pitcher
 CatcherMartin Maldonado $2,200
 First BaseVladimir Guerrero Jr. $5,400
 Second Base
 Third Base
 Short StopGleyber Torres $4,300
 OutfieldGiancarlo Stanton $4,700
 Outfield
 Outfield

Salary Remaining          $200

Hyun Jin Ryu ($9,700)

Ryu just got lit up by the Astros for six earned runs, which translated to -3.3 DKFP. The Astros are one of the best teams against left-handed pitching as they strike out the fewest and are 12th in ISO. Prior to that, he went for 19.7, 19.6, 31.4, and 26.2 DKFP. In 10 games this season, he’s scored fewer than 15 DKFP only twice. The White Sox have a ton of power but they are 10th in strikeouts against left-handed pitching.

Martin Maldonado ($2,200)

Maldonado has a .166/150/.278 slash. Yuck. And he strikes out 31.5 percent of the time. That said, he has four home runs on the season and, against left-handed pitching, the slash is .271/.306/.525 with a .254 ISO compared to .098/.217/.120 with a .022 ISO against righties. The Astros face Eduardo Rodriguez who is? Yup, a lefty.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. ($5,400)

Vlad is one of the best hitters in MLB. He has 18 home runs with a 14.6 percent walk rate and 15 percent strikeout rate. The ISO is .325 while the slash is .335/.441/.660. Dayam, that is good. He faces Dallas Keuchel who has a 10.9 percent strikeout rate, 5.13 FIP, and has served up eight home runs to righties.

Gleyber Torres ($4,300)

We are attacking JA Happ and the Twins bullpen today. He’s allowed eight home runs to righties with a slash of .279/.333/.529. The ISO is sub-.100 against both righties and lefties this season for Torres but, in his career, he has a .241 ISO against left-handed pitching. When Happ leaves the game, the Twins bullpen has the fourth-highest FIP.

Giancarlo Stanton ($4,700)

Stanton smashed two home runs yesterday and he can go on some serious heaters. Hopefully, it was the start of one yesterday. I just talked about Happ and the Twins bullpen above. In his career against lefties, Stanton has a .291/.386/.616 slash with a .324 ISO.

Here’s our full 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 6/10/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherHyun Jin Ryu $9,700
 PitcherTrevor Rogers $9,000
 CatcherMartin Maldonado $2,200
 First BaseVladimir Guerrero Jr. $5,400
 Second BaseDJ LeMahieu $4,200
 Third BaseGio Urshela $4,000

 OutfieldGiancarlo Stanton $4,700
 OutfieldRandal Grichuk $4,000
 OutfieldClint Frazier $2,300

Salary Remaining          $200

Trevor Rogers ($9,000)

Rogers has been so good this season. He’s struck out 81 batters in 68.2 innings while only allowing three home runs. The FIP is 2.49 and the swinging strike rate is 14.6 percent. Now he gets the Rockies who are one of the worst offenses on the road – dead-last in home runs and runs scored by a wide margin.

DJ LeMahieu ($4,200)

In his career, LeMahieu has a .320/.377/.468 slash with a .148 ISO against left-handed pitching. He’s been underwhelming so far this season as the batting average is .256 and the ISO is .070 but he will heat up at some point. He’s too good of a hitter. The walk rate is 10.5 percent and strikeout rate is 17.9 percent so the plate discipline numbers are fine. The BABIP is .306 but he’s often maintained a BABIP over .350.

Gio Urshela ($4,000)

The Yankees stack continues. Urshela has six home runs on the season with a .146 ISO. In his career against left-handed pitching, the slash is .274/.315/.425 with a .151 ISO.

Randal Grichuk ($4,000)

Grichuk has 12 home runs and 43 RBI on the season. The strikeout rate is only 21.1 percent after being in the high-20s to low-30s for most of his career. Against left-handed pitching, the slash is .364/.375/.691 with a .327 ISO this season.

Clint Frazier ($2,300)

Frazier has five home runs and two stolen bases on the season. The slash is only .191/.309/.322 with a .132 ISO, though, and the strikeout rate is 28.1 percent. And he bats towards the bottom of the lineup. Hey, there’s a reason he’s priced at $2,300. All of his power has come against left-handed pitching so there’s that.

Alternative Moves…

Alex Kirilloff – OF ($3,800 DK) – Kirilloff only has four home runs but he bats third in the lineup and the ISO is .170. He faces Michael King who has a 4.17 FIP and the swinging strike rate is only 8.8 percent.

Max Scherzer – P ($11,400 DK)

Scherzer has 104 strikeouts in 77 innings. The swinging strike rate is a robust 16.7 percent. He has given up 11 home runs so he’s not perfect but he’s still one of the best pitchers in the game. I mentioned that the weather is a concern in this one which is why I’m staying away. If the forecast clears up, then I’d have no problem going here.
