DFS MLB Baseball Picks for July 25, 2021

Yu Darvish pitching MLB
HOUSTON, TX - MAY 29: San Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish (11) throws a pitch in the bottom of the first inning during the baseball game between the San Diego Padres and Houston Astros on May 29, 2021 at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Leslie Plaza Johnson/Icon Sportswire)

We have eleven games tonight with the first pitch at 7:10 PM EST. Today’s slate of games is highlighted by Rafael Devers and the Boston Red Sox, taking on Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees in Boston. The highest implied run totals tonight sit with the Boston Red Sox (5.8), Cincinnati Reds (5.7) and the Houston Astros (5.5).

The weather for today’s games looks good across the board without a single game having a chance of rain above 20 percent.

Here is a selection of today’s Core Players 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 7/25/21 (using DraftKings Values)

Yu Darvish  – P ($10,500) – Darvish has been difficult to predict recently, but this is a great matchup for him facing the Marlins who have an SLG over the last two weeks of just 0.371, which is good for fourth-worst in baseball in that time frame.

Pavin Smith – 1B/OF ($3,500) – Smith has gotten hot recently. In his last four games, he has two home runs and a double, and he will be facing a Cubs team that doesn’t have intimidating pitching.

Ozzie Albies – 2B ($4,100) – Coming into today, Albies has at least a hit in three straight games, and six hits total in those games. To add to that he has two doubles and a home run in those games as well.

Gleyber Torres – SS ($3,600) – Torres has hit save in seven straight games, and while a week ago we saw Gleyber hitting or power, now we are starting to see him steal bases. In his last seven games, he has three home runs and three steals.

Jesse Winker – OF ($4,600) It looks like we might be seeing the power we saw earlier in the year from Winker start to come back. He has four doubles in his last five games and a home run. With this game in Cincinnati, it wouldn’t be a surprise for us to see more extra-base hits from Winker.

The Pitchers

Zack Greinke ($10,000 DK) While Grenkie has had issues giving up home runs this year, he has managed to limit the damage to just a single run. The good news for Grienke today is that he is facing the worst offence in MLB over the last two weeks in the Texas Rangers.

Ryan Yarbrough ($9,500) – Yarbrough has given up more than two runs in just one of his last four starts and he has gone more than five innings in each of those four starts as well. He will be facing a Cleveland team that has only gotten on base at a 28 percent clip over the last two weeks, which makes scoring runs pretty difficult.

Touki Toussaint ($5,900) – It wasn’t that long ago that Toussaint was the top pitching prospect in the Braves system. His stuff is good, but he has struggled in the past with his control and command. That said, he had a good start against the Padres his last time out giving up just three hits and one run. If you’re going to take on some risk and spend down at pitcher today, Toussaint is the way I would go.

The Value Players

Dalton Varsho – C/OF ($3,800) – Varsho has four straight multi-hit games and he has hit a home run in each of his last three games. You’re not going to find too many hitters who are hotter than that right now, and none of them at his price point.

Alec Bohm – 3B ($3,900) – Bohm has at least a hit in four straight games. With the Phillies expected to score more than five runs today, Bohm is an inexpensive way to get a piece of that lineup.

Alex Verdugo – OF ($3,200) – Verdugo has slipped down the Red Sox lineup a bit, but he has started to play better with four hits in his last three games. If he gets moved back up to the top of the lineup this is a great price for him, and even if he doesn’t, you’re not paying much to get a piece of one of the best offences in baseball, and the team that Vegas likes to score the most runs today.

The Stacks

Boston Red Sox – The Red Sox will likely be chalky today with them facing the Yankees and them having the highest implied run total. You should be able to still build a product stack with them though as you’re going to get a good price on Verdugo, and Kiké Hernandez, which will allow you to pay up for Rafael Devers, and you could still add in J.D. Martinez to that if you wish as he is below 5k.

Cincinnati Reds – We talked about Winker, but you’re not going to have to pay much for Jonathan India who has been hitting well, or Joey Votto who hit a home run last night, or if you’re so inclined you could also use Tyler Stephenson instead of Votto to save a bit of budget and get a middle of the order bat in your catcher position.

Arizona Diamondbacks – You don’t often think of Arizona as a team you would want to stack, but there is no good reason to be concerned about the pitching matchup they will face today from the Cubs, and with Pavin Smith and Dalton Varsho hitting at value prices, you can pay up to Eduardo Escobar if you wish, or keep the value going with someone like David Peralta.
