DFS MLB Baseball Picks for August 10, 2021

Shohei Ohtani
ANAHEIM, CA - APRIL 21: Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (17) celebrates after his home run during a MLB game between the Texas Rangers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on April 21, 2021 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim, CA. (Photo by Brian Rothmuller/Icon Sportswire)

We have fifteen games today with the first pitch at 7:05 PM EST. Today’s slate of games is highlighted by Cedric Mullins and the Baltimore Orioles, taking on Miguel Cabrera and the Detroit Tigers in Baltimore. The highest implied run totals tonight sit with the New York Yankees (5.8), Chicago White Sox (5.8), and the Detroit Tigers (5.5).

There is a 20 percent chance of rain at game time in Baltimore for the game between the Orioles and the Tigers, and we also have a 20 percent chance of rain in New York for the game between the Mets and the Nationals, so keep an eye on your lineup with players in those games as the game could be postponed.

Here is a selection of today’s Core Players 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 8/10/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherAlex Wood $9,800
 Pitcher
 Catcher
 First BaseBrandon Belt $4,500
 Second Base
 Third Base
 Short StopAmed Rosario $4,500
 OutfieldEloy Jimenez $4,400
 Outfield
 OutfieldShohei Ohtani $5,400

Alex Wood –  P  ($9,800) – Wood has struggled a bit as of late, but he will be facing a Diamondbacks team that has the lowest SLG in baseball over the last two weeks, and he will be at home where his opponents have hit for a batting average of just 0.210 against him.

Brandon Belt – 1B  ($4,500) – Few batters are hitting as well as Belt right now. He has hit four home runs in his last three games. At his price, it is well worth the opportunity cost to see if he can do it again tonight.

Amed Rosario – SS  ($4,500) – Rosario has started to hit for Cleveland. In his last two games, he has six hits with a double and a triple, and he has at least one hit in each of his last five games and nine out of ten games overall.

Eloy Jiménez  – OF ($4,400)  We are going to go back to the well with Eloy. He has back-to-back games with two home runs, and at his price if he only got you a double and another hit you would be satisfied.

Shohei Ohtani  – OF ($5,400)  We will want to be sure that Ohtani is in the lineup tonight. He has only pinch-hit in his last three games. He is always a threat, and he will be facing a pitcher tonight in Ross Stripling who has an ERA near 4.5.

The Pitchers

J.A Happ ($5,900 DK) Mostly we just need Happ to give us innings tonight. He will be facing a struggling Pirates team, so if we can get six innings out of him, he should exceed value even if he only gets a couple of strikeouts.

Max Scherzer ($11,000) – In Scherzer’s Dodgers debut he didn’t disappoint. He struck out ten batters, while only yielding one walk and two runs. He will be facing a streaking Phillies team tonight, but he is very familiar with their lineup and seemingly motivated to be on another contender.

Carlos Carrasco ($8,000) – Carrasco has looked good since coming off the IL. In his two starts he has only given up three total runs, it’s just a matter of how many innings he will throw. At his price, you will need to get at least five so he can get the win, so be careful of that factor with him, as he is yet to go more than 4.1.

The Value Players

Josh Harrison 2B/OF ($3,100) – In Harrison’s last two games he has been hitting in the middle of the order, and he has five hits, with a home run and a stolen base. You’re getting Harrison at a great price with his recent production.

Andrew Vaughn  – OF ($3,100) – Vaughn looks to be starting to hit his stride. He has two multi-hit games in his last four games, and two home runs in his last five games.

Wilson Ramos – C  ($2,900) – Ramos has back-to-back games with a home run, and that on its own would merit his consideration, but when you factor in that he is catcher eligible, and he is priced below 3k, that is hard to pass up.

The Stacks

Chicago White Sox – The great thing about the White Sox is that they have so many great options. Eloy Jimenez we discussed, Luis Robert is underpriced and hit in his first game back off the IL, and you can and Andrew Vaughn and have three players under 4.5k.

New York Yankees – If you’re going to stack the Yankees today, I would take a look at DJ LeMahieu and add in Tyler Wade and Giancarlo Stanton who have both been hitting well over the last few days.

Oakland Athletics – When it comes to building an Athletics stack, I would primarily be looking at Starling Marte, Matt Olson, Mark Canha, and Josh Harrison. Marte and Olson are pricey, but you will get Canha and Harrison cheap which can help balance the budget.
