DFS MLB Baseball Picks for August 4, 2021

Shohei Ohtani
ANAHEIM, CA - APRIL 06: Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (17) greets center fielder Mike Trout (27) after Trout hit a two run home run in the first inning of a game against the Houston Astros played on April 6, 2021 at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, CA. We have eleven games today with the first pitch at 7:05 PM EST. Today’s slate of games is highlighted by Jose Altuve and the Houston Astros, taking on Cody Bellinger and the Los Angeles Dodgers in Los Angeles. The highest implied run totals tonight sit with the Colorado Rockies (6.3), New York Yankees (6.0), and the Toronto Blue Jays (5.7).

There is some risk of rain in New York today for the game between the Yankees and the Orioles closer to 9 pm EST, so the game has some risk of being shortened.

Here is a selection of today’s Core Players 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 8/03/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherShohei Ohtani $9,500
 Pitcher
 CatcherMax Stassi $3,900
 First Base
 Second Base
 Third Base
 Short StopTrevor Story $5,200
 Outfield
 OutfieldGeorge Springer $5,600
 OutfieldAaron Judge $4,900

Shohei Ohtani- P ($9,500) – Ohtani has given up just three runs over his last three starts while striking out 17 batters in that time. He will face a Rangers team that has been among the worst hitting teams in baseball tonight so I expect another good start from Ohtani tonight.

Max Stassi – C  ($3,900) – Stassi has quietly been among the best hitting catches all season. He has at least a hit in each of his last eight games, and he has hit three home runs in that time as well.

Trevor Story – SS  ($5,200) – We are going to go back to the well with Story again today. He came through for us yesterday with two doubles, two runs, and an RBI, and the matchup for him will be just as good today.

George Springer ($5,600) Springer now has multi-hit games in four of his last five games. In those five games, he has four doubles and three home runs. His price is high, but getting the leadoff hitter one of the highest-scoring teams in the league can be worth it.

Aaron Judge – OF  ($4,900) – Judge now has two multi-hit games in his last three games, and he hit a home run yesterday for the first time in eight games, so he could be starting to get hot.

The Pitchers

Kevin Gausman ($9,700 DK) Gausman continues to be consistently good for the Giants. He has only given up more than three runs twice this season, and he has struck out nine betters twice in his last five games.

Max Scherzer ($9,100) – This is a great price for Scherzer who will be making his Dodgers debut tonight. In his last five starts, he has two games where he gave up more than three runs but in the other three he had only given up one run in each of them and he has struck out at least seven in four out of the five games.

Lucas Giolito ($10,600) – On a night like tonight, paying up for Giolito can be a difficult proposition. While his price is high he has only given up one run in each of his last three starts, and he will be facing a Royals team that isn’t hitting right now, so the potential for the win is higher.

The Value Players

Miguel Cabrera – 1B ($2,800) – Miggy seems to have found his swing recently. He has at least a hit in eight of his last night games, and he has multi-hit games in four of his last six, with three home runs and two doubles in that span.

Donovan Solano  – 2B ($2,800) – Solano has multi-hit games in four of his last six games, and he is coming off a two-double game. At his price, I will be happy with just two singles, but if we can get a double or better then we will be in great shape.

Sam Hilliard – OF ($2,400) – Hilliard has back-to-back multi-hit games, and back-to-back multi-home-run games. He should be in the lineup tonight and with this game in Colorado, there is lots of potential for Hilliard to out-earn his value by a significant margin.

The Stacks

New York Yankees – While the Yankees didn’t score as expected, it’s hard to imagine that Baltimore will continue to keep the Yankees’ run totals down. You will be able to get Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, Gleybar Torres, and Giancarlo Stanton all for under 5K each.

Toronto Blue Jays – We are back on the Blue Jays again today. I would be using the previously mentioned Springer and adding in Teoscar Hernandez and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to that and you will have a nice stack that you can add to any pitching selection you like.

Colorado Rockies – You shouldn’t be shocked to see the Rockies here. I love the value of Hilliard, Story is along a strong choice and you can add in Brendan Rodgers and have a Coors stack that didn’t break the bank.
