We have a twelve-game slate with first pitches at 1:05 EST. There should be lots of fun games today including Luis Castillo and the Cincinnati Reds at Jack Flaherty and the St. Louis Cardinal today. We have a couple of pitchers making their debuts today on the mound and with lots of games on the go, there will be lots of choice.

It looks like there will be rain in Boston today, so there is chance of a rain out there and it looks like there could be some rain in New York as well, but it looks like it will clear up so the Mets and Nationals should be a go but the start of the game may be delayed.

Here’s our 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 4/16/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherJesús Luzardo $7,700
 Pitcher
 CatcherYan Gomes $3,900
 First BaseMatt Olson $4,700
 Second Base
 Third Base
 Short StopTim Anderson $5,400
 OutfieldJorge Soler $3,900

Salary Remaining          $0

Jesús Luzardo ($7,700)

Luzardo is coming off of a five inning eight strikeout performance against the Astros, and will face a Orioles team that is striking out 28 percent of the time against left-handed pitching. Luzardo isn’t going deep into games but if he can get you six plus strikeouts and limit the runs he will be a good pick.

Yan Gomes($3,900)

Gomes comes in at a reasonable price, going up against Taijuan Walker of the Mets, who comes into the game today walking seven batters per nine innings. Gomes is a capable hitter, and most importantly he won’t break the bank.

Matt Olson ($4,700)

In his last four games Olson has eight hits, two doubles and two home runs. I don’t see another game against the Orioles being what will have him start to cool off, especially going up against a left-handed starter, in which he has a SLG of 0.647 against so far this season.

Tim Anderson ($5,400)

It’s pretty amazing that Anderson is yet to take a walk this season, but when his SLG is 0.553, we can look past that. In his last four games he has a double, a home run and two steals. Any combination of those stats today will leave us with a collective smile.

Jorge Soler ($3,900)

There is no combination in DFS that quite matches power hitters going against bad starting pitchers, and that is exactly what we have here. Soler has four extra-base hits in this last three games, and he will be facing a Tigers starter in Michael Fulmer who has seen 20 percent of the fly balls he gives up go as home runs (which is actually down from last year).

Here’s our full 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 4/16/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherJesus Luzardo $7,700
 PitcherMatt Shoemaker $6,300
 CatcherYan Gomes $3,900
 First BaseMatt Olson $4,700
 Second BaseJorge Polanco $4,000
 Third BaseYoan Moncada $4,900
 Short StopTim Anderson $5,400
 OutfieldJorge Soler $3,900
 OutfieldLuis Robert $5,000
 OutfieldJared Walsh $4,200

Salary Remaining          $0

Matt Shoemaker ($6,300)

We are going to go back to the well with Shoemaker again today. His price, combined with facing the Pirates, and his strikeout rate are all too hard for me to pass up. He had a rough outing in his last start against the Athletics, but the Pirates are in the bottom third of the league in runs scored over the last week so there is a good chance he returns value and then some today.

Jorge Polanco ($4,000)

The choice to go with Polanco is less about what Polanco has done recently, and more about the Pirates throwing a rookie starter to the wolves(or Twins in this case). Wil Crowe will make his first MLB start today against a dangerous Twins lineup, and for Polanco he will be hitting in the middle of that order, which should give him more than enough at bats to return value today.

Yoan Moncada ($4,900)

Moncada has back-to-back three hits games and has gotten hot after a cold start. In those three games Moncada has had a home run and a double to go with those hits. The White Sox should see a good bit of the Rangers bullpen today as well with Kohei Arihara, yet to get through five complete innings.

Luis Robert ($5,000)

Robert has hits in five straight games, and multi-hit games in three of those games, extra base hits in three of those games, a couple of steals. Robert when he is playing well is more than capable of giving you a monster game with is power and speed.

Jared Walsh ($4,200)

Walsh just keeps hitting. We haven’t seen the power from him in the last week, but his SLG for the year is 0.563, so it is definitely in his bat. He will face a starter in Lance McCullers Jr. who had his last start skipped due to illness, so he will be out of routine, and that doesn’t always go well for pitchers.

Alternative Moves…

Randal Grichuk – OF ($3,700 DK) Grichuk has three home runs in his last four games, and will face Luis Patino who is making his debut as a Rays starter today. He is a value priced player who could give you a really big return today.

Michael Kopech– P ($6,900 DK)

Kopech is a real wild card today. He is facing the Rangers who have struck out 29 percent of the time over the last week. Kopech is striking out 42 percent of the batters he has faced this season(some of that is out of the bullpen), but could definitely give you five innings with 8 strikeouts or better.
