First let us rejoice that DraftKings is finally not showing us last year’s stats! Second, if you went with our higher risk, higher reward goalie yesterday you can continue to rejoice. Even without Mark Stone or Max Pacioretty, the Vegas Golden Knights got a ton of shots on the St. Louis Blues and Jordan Binnington came up huge, stopping over 40 to keep the Blues undefeated streak going. That is exactly the type of advice we love to bring to you on a daily basis.
Tonight there are ten matchups which means we are back to a nearly overwhelming number of players to choose from. Let us focus on the biggest mismatches. The Ottawa Senators will have quite the day with both Brady Tkachuk and Matt Murray making their season debuts. We will talk more about Chucky below but Murray is always a big question mark. The San Jose Sharks have some sneaky value today. And not just for McDavid and Draisaitl’s sake, the Arizona Coyotes have some new goalie that we have never heard of so that bodes well for the Edmonton Oilers.
We were going to go with Connor Hellebuyck today until we saw how many goals he has given up this year. We will be passing on that until the Jets right the ship. In the meantime, Freddie Andersen has had a fantastic start to the season behind the wonderful Carolina Hurricanes. He may get injured before too long so squeeze as much value out of him as early in the season as you can.
Brady Tkachuk is one the league’s premier pests. He shoots more than anyone not named Ovechkin, lays down hits every shift and has Josh Norris and Drake Batherson to complement his scoring game. There is a chance he is not fully conditioned yet since contract negotiations took so long, but he still has a huge ceiling. We have a different option for you behind the paywall if he is too risky for you.
Most people, when given the choice between Mat Barzal and Logan Couture, would immediately go for Barzal. We like Barzal well enough and he is worth serious consideration, but back to our daily mismatch, Couture is off to a hot start and will be staring down Matt Murray. We like those odds.
We will be offering up one of our cheap guys for free today just because we love him so much and are so excited that he is finally stateside. Moritz Seider is playing a very mature game for such a young man. The winning goal for the Red Wings last game started with Mo being patient in his own end and making a smart play. He will be rewarded for that mentality.
Now what do you get if you sign up now?
• Someone to swap Brady for that has already been producing this season
• Another high level defenseman discussion and a couple mid tier wingers we are keen on
• Baseball playoffs, football mid-season madness and basketballs bourgeoning bad boys for just $99. Six months, no risk, all the rewards
Timo Meier has come flying out of the gate to avenge a mediocre season. He is a great stack with Couture since he is getting top line minutes. He is super physical and is capable of a point per game season.
We hope you were subbed yesterday for our Taylor Hall pick. Silky smooth mitts got him a goal. Let’s see if we can keep that magic alive with Jesse Puljujarvi. His linemate needs no introduction and he stands to benefit greatly. There is a new confidence in Pool Party that we have been waiting a long time for. It is his breakout season.
It is the year of signing monster defensemen for over $9 million per year. These two juggernauts get some undeserved heat for signing contracts that may look terrible in 5-6 years. Darnell Nurse and Seth Jones are in their prime right now. Nurse offers better peripherals, while Jones gets top power play time and is more likely to score a goal. Nurse is playing for the better matchup, but the Blackhawks do stand a chance against the Canucks. Choose wisely.
Andrew Copp remains a must add at his price.
That strategy should save you quite a bit of time assembling your squad. Lots of upside and opportunity for goals. Let us know on Twitter (@FantasyDFSX) how you did and have yourself a great Thursday.
