The Lions are at Lambeau Field tonight to face the Packers, who are coming off an embarrassing 38-3 loss to the Saints on opening day. Detroit is also looking for their first win as they took a beating at home to the 49ers. But this game screams of an Aaron Rodgers comeback game, as he only threw for 133 yards with two interceptions at New Orleans. Look for Rodgers to put on a show at home against one of the worst defenses in the league.
Although Detroit was getting blown out to begin the game against San Fran last week, they did manage to put up points in some serious garbage time as we saw Jared Goff throw for 338 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. The Lions’ backfield benefitted greatly from Goff’s check downs as D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams each catch eight passes with Swift also getting a touchdown.

Rodgers seemed to very smug and nonchalant after his dismal performance last week, but the reigning MVP will show the world tonight that it was only a hiccup. Rodgers bounced back last season throwing for 283 yards and four touchdowns after the same whopping the Packers suffered to Tampa Bay in week 5 of 2020. Jamaal Williams will be returning to Lambeau as a Lion after being released as a free-agent by Green Bay, but the stud Running Back tonight is Aaron Jones. Detroit as we saw last week cannot stop the run, and now that Jones no longer has Williams vulturing touches from him in Green Bay, He will feast.

Captain/MVP:
Aaron Rodgers ($17,100 DK/$16,000 FD) The rust should all be off by now since all the drama in the off-season and lack of play in the preseason. Rodgers will bounce back at home in the spotlight against a vulnerable Lions’ defense without a secondary. Top Lions’ cornerback Jeff Okudah has already been ruled out for the year with a ruptured Achilles.
Davonte Adams ($17,700 DK/$15,000 FD) is the apple of Rodgers’ eye in Green Bay. He’s been the focal point of the passing offense over the past 4 seasons with over 6,000 yards receiving and 62 touchdowns for his career with his QB. Adams is a simple plug in and sleep like a baby at Captain.
Avoid:
Jared Goff ($15,000 DK/$14,500 FD) is not worth his high salary playing a Packer defense thirsty for blood after allowing Jameis Winston to throw five touchdowns on them last week. Jaire Alexander and company will look to shut down the Lions passing offense for the night.
Other Studs we like:
T. J. Hockenson ($9,600 DK/$11,000 FD) saw a lot of passing volume in his debut this season, and will most likely see more targets tonight against Green Bay. Hockenson caught eight of eleven balls for 97 yards and a touchdown in the opener.
Robert Tonyan ($9,600 DK/$10,000 FD) caught only two passes for eight yards against the Saints last week, but the game was out of reach and starters were getting pulled. Rodgers has built trust in his Tight End, who caught 11 of his touchdowns last season.
Marquez Valdez-Scantling ($5,600 DK/$8,000 FD) is the deep threat receiver for Green Bay. He will be sought for a big play down the sideline or up the middle if he lines up in the slot. If Rodgers is looking to put on a big performance, MVS can have some upside tonight. I’m not against using him in the Captain slot either, MVS would save a ton in salary and would allow more studs in your lineup.
Value at Flex:
Amon-Ra St. Brown ($2,400 DK/$7,500 FD) the rookie saw four targets and was second behind in snaps with 59. St. Brown will see even more volume tonight as the injuries are already piling up for Detroit with Tyrell Williams already being ruled out with a concussion and Khalif Raymond being questionable with a bruised thigh.
Trinity Benson ($1,000 DK/$6,000 FD) caught three of six targets for 19 yards, but should also benefit from the injuries at wide receiver. His salary is very desirable considering how expensive the key players in tonight’s game.
General Strategy:
The Packers are favored tonight by almost two touchdowns tonight, so let’s not get too fancy tonight. Roster your Packers and trust in Rodgers who should come through tonight at home. The Lions will make it interesting and throw the ball as Goff chucked it 57 times, so they will keep it interesting. I’m not thrilled spending up for any of the Lions players due to the potential of a blow-out. Attack the value on Detroit’s end as they are banged up at wide receiver.
Now go and win with your lineup and let us know how you did.
