DFS MLB Baseball Picks for May 26, 2021

Tyler Glasnow
OAKLAND, CA - MAY 08: Tampa Bay Rays Starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow (20) throws a pitch during the MLB game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland Athletics on May 08, 2021, at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, CA. (Photo by Kiyoshi Mio/Icon Sportswire)

We’ve got a nine-game slate for Wednesday. The pitching options aren’t as voluminous and wild as yesterday’s slate. There are two clear studs up at top but the matchups aren’t great for either. I will be paying up for one and found a cheap option that I’m comfortable with. I’m going right back to the same stack as yesterday, with one change due to price. COL, NYM, KC, MIL, and HOU are projected for fewer than four runs. BOS, ATL, NYY, and WAS are projected for at least five runs while KC is projected for fewer than three runs. CLE/DET has not had their lines released yet.

All clear on the weather front.

Here’s our 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 5/26/21 (using DraftKings Values)

Salary Remaining          $100

Tyler Glasnow ($10,500)

Glasnow has a 16.2 percent swinging strike rate and has struck out 87 batters in 62 innings. He has walked 21 batters, though, and the Royals are 21st in strikeouts against right-handed pitching. That said, they are 22nd in ISO, which is the reason I chose Glasnow over Trevor Bauer because the Dodgers play the Astros.

Buster Posey ($4,600)

We are attacking Merrill Kelly and the Diamondbacks bullpen. Kelly has a 4.37 FIP and 8.2 percent swinging strike rate while the Arizona bullpen has the sixth-highest FIP. Posey has had a renaissance season, clubbing nine home runs and slashing .355/.30/.645 with a .290 ISO.

Brandon Belt ($4,300)

Belt bats cleanup for the Giants. He strikes out a ton (33.1 percent) but he has eight home runs and two stolen bases on the season. The ISO is .252. All eight of his home runs have come against right-handed pitchers.

Brandon Crawford ($4,400)

Crawford bats third for the Giants. He has a whopping 11 home runs and three stolen bases on the season. The Giants are a grip it and rip it team, especially against right-handed pitching. They are first in strikeouts but 7th in ISO.

Robbie Grossman ($4,400)

Grossman bats leadoff for the Tigers and has five home runs and seven stolen bases on the season. The walk rate is 16.3 percent while the strikeout rate is 21.7 percent. The pitcher for the Indians hasn’t been officially announced yet but it will probably be Cal Quantrill, who has a 4.54 FIP in 23.2 innings and has walked 11 while striking out only 16 batters.

Here’s our full 50-50 MLB DFS lineup for 5/26/21 (using DraftKings Values)

 PitcherTyler Glasnow $10,500

 CatcherBuster Posey $4,500
 First BaseBrandon Belt $4,300
 Second BaseKike Hernandez $4,200
 Third BaseEvan Longoria $3,900

 OutfieldRobbie Grossman $4,400
 OutfieldAlex Verdugo $3,900
 OutfieldAlex Dickerson $3,000

Salary Remaining          $100

German Marquez ($6,700)

We know the numbers for Marquez at home are high but they are similar on the road as well. Digging in a little closer, two of those games were in San Francisco where he allowed eight and three earned runs. The Giants are no joke on offense and they are intimately familiar with Marquez. Now he gets a matchup against a Mets team that is almost as inept as the Rockies away from Coors Field. They are 29th in ISO against right-handed pitching.

Kike Hernandez ($4,200)

Bats leadoff for the Rockies and has always hit left-handed pitching well. Drew Smyly has a 6.36 FIP and has allowed eight of his 11 homers to righties. The FIP against right-handed bats is 7.04 while the K/9 is 6.33, compared to 12.6 against lefties. Hernandez has a career slash of .264/.344/.469 with a .206 ISO against left-handed pitching.

Evan Longoria ($3,900)

Longoria bats fifth for the Giants. I forgot that he was still in the league but here we are. He has five home runs and one stolen base on the season. The walk rate is a fantastic 13.2 percent, which is highest level since 2011. He hasn’t had a double-digit walk rate since 2013. Anyways, the ISO is .174 and the slash is .242/.342/.417.

Alex Verdugo ($3,900)

Verdugo bats second for the Red Sox and provides a mini-stack with Hernandez. He has way more power against righties but he’s more than capable against lefties with a slash of .275/.302/.373.

Alex Dickerson ($3,000)

Yesterday, we had Mike Yastrzemski as the final piece to the Giants stack but he’s too expensive so we are bypassing the leadoff spot and sliding down to the sixth position where Dickerson bats. On the season, he has four home runs. The slash is only .228/.291/.366 while the ISO is at .139. He’s a career .208 ISO batter so he’ll heat up at some point. In his career against right-handed pitching, the slash is .267/.335/.489 with a .221 ISO.

Alternative Moves…

Gavin Lux – 2B ($4,200 DK) – Lux started off slow but since May 1st, he’s slashing .324/.375/.500 with a .176 ISO. The strikeout rate is only 18.8 percent and he’s clubbed three home runs and driven in 16. He’s collected at least one hit in 15 of the last 20 games.

Marcus Stroman – P ($9,200 DK)

Stroman’s numbers don’t pop off the page. The FIP is 3.74 while K/9 is only 7.35. The swinging strike rate is 11.8 percent, though. He also faces the Rockies who are last in runs scored and home runs away from the friendly confines of Coors Field.
