MLB DFS Picks and Lineups For April 3, 2021

Ah, weekend baseball, few things are better. The main slate on DraftKings has seven games today. We get just our second day with a full slate of games, and it should be a good one. 

Looking deeper into who to play day – let’s look at two key pitching battles. We have Jose Berriosof the Twins going up against Corbin Burns of the Brewers, which should provide lots of strikeout potential. We also see Walker Buehler of the Dodgers go to Colorado to take on Jon Gray and the Rockies at Coors Field which should have some value.

The national weather for April 3, 2021 has nothing that really stands out from a precipitation standpoint, so all games should be a go, but we are expecting cooler temperatures in San Diego(64 degrees at game time) and Seattle(59 degrees at game time)

Corbin Burnes ($8,200)

Burnes finished last season striking out nearly 37 percent of the batter he faced, that is DFS gold. The Twins lineup is no slouch however, but with his strikeout rate, you can afford to give up a few runs and still get a nice score from him, and if he is on, he has the upside to ensure that you’re hitting the top half of the field even if some of your hitters miss.

Joe Musgrove ($8,600)

Musgrove is another pitcher with the strikeout upside you crave from your starters. While Musgrove didn’t strike out quite as many batters last season as Burnes, 33 percent is still more than adequate, and he offers you a bit more safety, as he will be facing a lesser lineup in the Diamondbacks today.

Evan White ($2,700)

For White to return value, we won’t need a tonne from him. In the first two games of the season he has provided a hit and two runs, and a hit and two RBI’s. These are the joys of hitting in the middle of the order even on a team that won’t might not have the most productive offence. If we can get similar production today at this price we will be in good shape.

Corey Seager ($5,500)

Getting premium players into your lineup at Coors Field is often a winning combination, and Seageris no different. Corey Seager is a very productive player, as we have seen over the last two games(five hits, three runs, two RBI and a double), and you really won’t find too many better matchups than this one.

Taylor Trammell ($2,200)

While we are still waiting for Trammell to get his first hit in MLB, we are getting him at a price that helps us in two ways, one we save money to get more exposure to better opportunities, and we really just need anything from him to not take a zero. He is hitting in the middle of the Mariners lineup, so the opportunity cost here alone almost makes his price worthwhile.

Buster Posey ($3,600)

Posey has started the season with back to back games with home runs. While we shouldn’t expect him to go three games in a row, his price is low enough that we can certainly pay up to find out, and over his career he has provided enough of hitting floor to make this price worthwhile even without the home runs.

Ty France ($3,900)

As you may have noticed here we are stacking this game to help get us exposure to our top players on the slate, while still getting good lineup spots and opportunities. Ty France was one of the top hitters in the minor leagues over the last few years, and now that he is in Seattle he is getting the opportunities that weren’t afforded to him in San Diego. He has hit in each of the first two games, and with Giants unimposing pitching staff he should be able to get at least another hit or two today.

Yoán Moncada ($4,900)

After a quiet opening day, we saw Moncada get into the action yesterday. The White Sox clean up hitter is a player that has the upside to provide both home runs and steals, but also the on base floor to get you a couple of walks and score some runs even on nights where he isn’t hitting. With how good this White Sox lineup should be, and facing Alex Cobb who doesn’t strike a lot of people out, and hasn’t had an ERA under four in several years now.

Cody Bellinger ($5,500)

Bellinger is a player who can blow up on any night. He has started the season off with a double, a triple, two runs scored, and two RBI’s. At Coors, going against Jon Gray tonight, it would be no surprise if he gave us the home run and the steal we have been missing from him in the first two games. If nothing else he will have enough ownership in cash games, that it will be hard to lose with him either way on this small of a main slate.

Wil Myers ($4,900)

Myers has started the season off hot, with a 0.833 SLG. The Padres are facing a pitcher in Caleb Smith who struggled to get batters out all spring, and facing a potent Padres lineup in his first start likely won’t help him out. Hitting out of the fifth spot in the batting order should allow Myers lots of at bats tonight, to ensure he gets you over the top.

Alternative Moves…

Lance Lynn – P ($9,200 DK) Lynn in facing the Angels three times last year, didn’t give up more than three runs against them, and struck out at least five batters in each game. This should be a good matchup for him, as the White Sox are more than capable of putting up enough runs to help ensure Lynn can get the win for them today, and if you can pair that with a handful of strikeouts you should be in good shape.

Jake Cronenworth – 2B ($3,400 DK) Getting exposure to the Padres is likely to always be a good idea this year. Cronenworth has started the season with a double, a triple, and three runs scored in the first two games, and the only reason not to like him is that he is likely to be hitting sixth today. If you wanted to go with him instead of France and pay up somewhere else, that is certainly a move that wouldn’t be objectionable.
