What a day of hockey. The Senators exploded for five goals, the Canucks shut out the Jets, the Ducks came close to beating the Blues, and the Sharks ripped the Avalanche apart. Up is down and left is right. We will see what we can do about righting the ship and will be focusing on the Tampa Bay Lightning vs Dallas Stars game.
Here’s a zippy lineup For DFS Hockey 3/2/21 (using DraftKings Values)
Center | A. Cirelli | $4,300
Center | $6,000 | ||
Wing | S. Stamkos | $7,500 | |
Wing | $4,300 | ||
Wing | $2,900 | ||
Defense | V. Hedman | $6,800
Defense | $6,500 | ||
Goalie | A. Vasilevskiy | $8,300
Utility | $3,400 |
For someone who missed a significant chunk of last season and has had a career plagued by injuries Steven Stamkos still manages to be elite. He has double digit goals and even though he is on the second line he can still produce however he wants. He is that good.
Victor Hedman is one of those rare treats we allow ourselves. We tend to not invest as heavily in defensemen but this guy is one to own. It is somewhat surprising that he did not get a point when the Lightning put up five on the Stars last game but that is the exception not the rule.
Andrei Vasilevskiy is the workhorse in Tampa Bay. His goals against average is below two which is an elite marker in the goaltending world. Only Marc-Andre Fleury’s remarkable comeback season comes close to that number. He will stay in the Vezina conversation for the foreseeable future.
We came back around to Anthony Cirelli after much deliberation and feel great about the decision. He is a perfect stack with Stamkos and has been in full gear since coming back from injury. We want to pump the brakes on the Patrice Bergeron comparisons as Cirelli is far from perfect but it is still quite the compliment.

Sebastian Aho – C ($6,000 DK) is going for less money than Vincent Trocheck right now which is quite the surprise. Trocheck is having a fantastic season but to be above Aho is quite the accomplishment. They come in around the same FPPG and are both on top power play so flip a coin or if you prefer Trocheck just go for it.
Drake Batherson – W ($4,300 DK). You know we try not to chase hot hands often but goodness gracious this boy is on fire. Ottawa’s third line is exploding on offence right now. Like Aho you could swap out Bath for Stuetzle but he is probably the better hand to hold right now. Price’s elite status has been suspect and he will get put to the test tonight.
Oliver Wahlstrom – W ($2,900 DK). Let us double down on investing in emerging markets. The Islanders first round pick in 2018 is already finding his stride which is remarkable for a 20 year old. The matchup against Aaron Dell is asking for points and our alternates today will be taking a heavy look at Long Island.
Dougie Hamilton – D ($6,500 DK). For some reason Dougie always seems shy when we pick him. We will not let that deter us though as the Hurricanes just beat one of the best teams in the league and are playing one of the worst tonight. We do not want to hate on the other big cat team but the Predators are having a tough go of it.
Alexis Lafreniere – U ($3,400 DK). Apparently the theme of the day is young studs. Lafreniere has moved up to the top line in New York and has a great matchup against the Sabres. Let us see if the first overall talent has what it takes to keep that spot and the trust of David Quinn.
Alternative Moves…
Mat Barzal – C ($6,200 DK). Swap out Aho for Barzal due to the arguably better goalie matchup. The Islanders are sitting pretty in a playoff spot and will be looking to pad that buffer. Barzal is one of the hottest players on the team and will bring energy every shift.
Thomas Chabot – D ($6,100 DK) is a critical piece of the Senators progress and potential success moving forward. Without him they fall apart. He is playing very well right now and will be looking to feed all the young talent around him with crisp passes while also protecting the house. Save a few hundred on Dougie to afford Barzal.
Josh Bailey – W ($3,300 DK) is going to be a safer bet than Lafreniere and is $100 cheaper. His spot on the second line gets him access to Brock Nelson who is an underrated center. On the other side is Anthony Beauvillier who is always in the conversation given his breakout season. Great line with a great matchup.
