One thing PGA Tour pros and I have in common is that they too aren’t allowed to go to Mexico these days. I will end the comparison there. Because of COVID travel issues, this week’s World Golf Championship has been moved to a new venue, The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida– a Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin course that opened in 2006. The invitational field this week is quite strong and the players will be happy to be back in Florida where many of them reside. One key detail for DFS players is that unlike most PGA Tour events, the World Golf Championships don’t have a cut thus taking that all-important factor out of our calculus this week. Last week, we went with a low-priced and well-aged Jim Furyk at $6,400 who is now 10/10 on cuts made. That’s all we needed from him and he paid off even better by the end of day Sunday. This week, we are looking for more overall upside from this stacked field.
The Golf Course at The Concession Golf Club
The Concession Club is known as a difficult course with a course rating of nearly 77 and a slope of 155. Those are some mighty high numbers for a par-72, 7,450 yard long course. Golf Digest draws comparison around the greens to Sebonack in The Hamptons which Jack Nicklaus worked in conjunction with Tom Doak to design. Sebonack is a haven for three putting with severe undulations on the greens. The Concession Golf Club is mostly tree-lined course and very modern in design. The course can reportedly get windy at times which gives it even more teeth. The fact of the matter is that we don’t have the same frame of reference for the course as the pros have never played there. Longer hitters like D.J., Bryson, Rahm, Kokrak and others will be at a premium.
Weather
The weather in Bradenton, Florida this week is expected to be even better than the gorgeous weather that the PGA Tour guys got when in California and Arizona. Sunny with temperatures in high-70s to low-80s could lead to some low, overall scoring. The wind isn’t projected to be an issue with early reports of it being below 10 miles per hour.
Past Champions at The World Golf: Workday
Here’s another place that we look every week for clues on who to pick and with no track record on this week’s golf course, I am not sure the concept of past champions is very relevant for this week’s write up so we are looking more at who’s playing well at this moment. Dustin Johnson ($11,600)lost his mojo on Sunday at Riviera but never count him out as he is the world’s number one player for good reason. Webb Simpson ($9,100) is back in action after sitting out a few stops in California thus he deserves some renewed attention. Max Homa ($8,600) was electric at Riviera but winning at his favorite tour stop in his home town might be too much emotion to carry over into a back-to-back win (or high finish). I wouldn’t fault him if he backed out like D.J. and Daniel Berger did but for now he’s in the field still.
Cameron Smith ($8,700) was looking strong on the course in Pacific Palisades last week and could be in line for a high finish. We’ve been riding Will Zalatoris ($8,000) for weeks now and that is likely to remain the case thanks to his consistently good play of late. With perhaps a little European Tour discrimination, Tyrell Hatton ($9,600) might come in as a player somewhat under the radar. He’s been on a tear on with the Euro Tour lately and I could see that translate over to the WGC this week. Lastly, we picked Tony Finau ($9,800) last week and he came so close to winning that it is criminal. Finau is playing the best golf of his life and like Jordan Spieth, he’s hungry to win. He makes cuts (not a thing this week but…) and he is becoming a lock for a Top-10 finish. He’d like to outright win but we will take a T-2 for DFS and be very happy.
What’s likely more on-point is looking players who are red hot right now and coming to Florida for their guaranteed payday (unlike the event also going in Puerto Rico).

Tyrell Hatton is a good global pick in a global field. He’s killing it overseas and beating the best players in the world when given the chance. Now he comes to the States and might just do the same thing at a bit of a discount as compared to other big names that are absolutely in the field.
Nobody would be shocked if Tony Finau finally won a PGA Tour event this week. He’s been one of the best DFS performers all year and I am not getting off of this ride until he gives me a reason to. Could he win The Masters? Sure he could be he might win this week first.
Will Zalatoris is another horse that I am going to keep riding. While I was in love with Molinari at Riviera (where he is a new member) Will Zalatoris continues to deliver in the daily fantasy golf world. Some of my money is on him continuing to do so again this week.
Scotty Scheffler is playing very well and comes as a bit of a bargain in a star-studded field. He’s going to get four, full rounds of opportunity to shine and we are betting that he will this week at The Concession Club.
Ryan Palmer is our bargain pick this week at $7,200. Lots of cuts made but more importantly for this week – higher than average fantasy points especially for the money that DraftKings is asking. We love the value. With five Top-10s, we love the high end potential value here.

Here’s A More Risky Lineup For The WGC Workday

Dustin Johnson ($11,600) is always a good DFS pick assuming you can fit him into your budget. With the amazing depth in this week’s WGC field, we were able to get the world’s number one player into our second lineup and thank God for that. He could have won at Riviera but seemed to poop out on Sunday. He won two weeks before that in the Middle East. D.J. seems like a lock for a good finish at The Concession because of his length and current winning ways.
Victor Hovland ($9,400) isn’t a bargain at his price this week but he’s a European super-car firing on all cylinders right now thus he could deliver. His 88.1 fantasy points on average makes him a tempting pick.
Jason Kokrak ($7,100) is a more sneaky pick. He’s won on tour in the past year. He played great at Riviera and the big man can make the ball go a long way. At $7,100, this is how we can afford the Dustin Johnson’s of the world in our lineups.
Abraham Ancer ($6,800) is another devalued property that has paid nice dividends in the recent past. The young, Mexican player has been a cut making machine for a good year now with some high end performances to add to his appeal. His stock is low in this loaded field and we are saying “buy, buy, buy” on Ancer.
Joaquin Niemann ($8,100) is a very young player who I don’t think we’ve seen the best out of yet – and that’s a scary thought. Niemann needs a little more patience on the course but his average of 93.1 fantasy points, should woo you to his powers. Last week at Riviera was disappointing for Niemann and a bounce back could be coming this week.
Gary Woodland ($6,800) How the mighty have fallen? Woodland hasn’t played since San Diego and recently he just hasn’t been playing well with 3/8 cuts made. In a normal week, that would get him a big fat NO in terms of a pick but Woodland is too good of a player to just go away. To do well or WIN a GPP – you need to take risks and Woodland is the definition of said risk.
Alternative Moves …
A-List Picks
• Bryson DeChambeau ($9,900) is famous for his long drives and they may come into play over 72 holes in Florida.
• Brooks Koepka ($9,500) won with a killer chip in at The Waste Management Phoenix Open and played well at Riviera. The FedEx points and big dollars might have Brooks focused this week and when he’s focused – look out.
• Patrick Cantlay ($10,000) is just getting it done these days and there is no reason to think that he wouldn’t and couldn’t do it again this week. He’s a little more dialed into the California courses which is how he got to be an alternate pick this week but by all means, building a lineup around this young man is a good idea.
B-List Picks
• Tommy Fleetwood ($8,900) rocks some serious Jesus-hair but the man can also play a little bit of golf. He isn’t the bargain that we was a year ago when he was far better known overseas but he’s a rock-solid pick for this week.
• Matthew Fitzpatrick ($8,500) came in fifth last week at Riviera and looked like he had more to give. His fantasy points aren’t that high but his upside hasn’t really been reached yet.
• Scotty Scheffler ($8,300) came in 20th last week at Riv and is playing some very solid golf right now. He’s not a stunning bargain but he’s a solid bet for a good finish this week if you are looking to build lineups from the middle of the pack because of the no-cut factor.
C-List Picks
• Bernd Wiesberger ($6,700) might not be recent-winner Daniel Berger but he also comes at a fraction of the price. The Austrian player is getting a little shade this week as he has made every cut of the year (6/6) and is averaging 71.4 fantasy points. If he got us that for $6,700, I think we would be happy.
• Lanto Griffin ($6,700) hasn’t played since San Diego thus he’s a little out of mind for some players but he shouldn’t be as he came in seventh at Torrey Pines. If he came anywhere close to that for his modest price, this week – Lanto will be a home run pick.
• Sebastian Munoz ($6,500) is an ultra-risky but very high reward pick. He makes most of his cuts but the last time I picked him he missed the cut and has been out with an injury. Before that, Munoz was trending up and big time. At nearly the lowest price in the field – this is a GPP pick if I’ve ever seen one. Keep an eye on the Colombian as you never know if he will withdraw from the WGC. With the FedEx points and the guaranteed payday, if the kid can play – he will.
