We head into the weekend tonight with 10 games on the slate and multiple directions to go in. While there are certainly specific directions I am exploring, more detail to follow, I wouldn’t say there are many “must plays” tonight. Some options are better than others but this is slate in which you don’t want to force your lineup build to go in any particular direction unless you are truly confident in it.

It is a pivotal time for as country but you didn’t come here for me to opine on current events. This is a judgement free zone but from a DFS perspective it has to be noted that Kyrie Irving didn’t travel to Memphis with the Nets for tonight’s game. With Kevin Durantalready sidelined this Brooklyn team is going to look a lot like the one we saw at the end of last season. That means for the second straight day, neither played last night either, Caris LeVert ($7,400 DK, $6,800 FD) is going to be given all he can handle as far as playing time and opportunity. Last night we saw LeVert turn that into 22 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists and I would expect more of the same tonight.

Staying with the Nets now we turn to their newly minted started center. Jarrett Allen ($6,800 DK, $7,000 FD) who continued on his current trend of recording double-doubles without really breaking a sweat. Last night Allen needed 28 minutes to score 15 points while adding 11 rebounds. I know earlier I said about there not really being any must plays tonight, but this Brooklyn duo is close. More importantly they are priced fairly and allow you to fit one or two stars into your lineups. We should just back things up slightly though and note that Seth Curry tested positive for COVID-19 during last night’s game against the Nets. While tonight’s Brooklyn game doesn’t appear to be in jeopardy as with everything else it is a situation to monitor.
As crazy as this may sound let’s stay in New York as the city is having one of its best starts to the basketball season in years. Julius Randle ($9,800 DK, $9,400 FD) has emerged as one of the best DFS option in the game and their few players who are doing better so far this year. Even when Randle struggles to start the game he still ends up turning things around and finishing things strong. That continued on Tuesday as he scored 30 points along with an eye popping 16 rebounds and seven assists. As outlandish as those statistics may seem it isn’t too far off from Randle’s averages for the season of 22.8 points, 13.2 points, and eight assists per game as there is no questioning his involvement in New York’s offense.
All Austin Rivers ($4,300 DK, $4,500 FD) has done his return from injury is produce and the Knicks are also leaning on him more and more. The fact that Rivers comes off the bench doesn’t matter as he is on the floor at the end of the game and on Tuesday he played 32 minutes. Rivers was very instrumental in New York’s comeback as he scored 23 points but it came with just three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. The price is right here so you can get past the fact that Rivers’ value is really dependent on his scoring.
Whenever there is a high scoring game it seems the Wizards are often involved. After scoring between 27 and 31 points in his last four games Bradley Beal ($9,700 DK, $10,100 FD) took things to another level with 60 points. Beal is now averaging 35 points per game along 5.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists so far this season but I’m not interested in chasing that performance despite his overall success this year. However thanks to a dislocated finger Russell Westbrook’s ($10,400 DK, $10,700 FD) is up in the air and needs to be monitored. It’s hard to find a better backcourt duo around as Westbrook is half a rebound shy of averaging a triple-double (21.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, 11 assists) and both are top options. But if Westbrook is in fact sidelined, I’m writing Beal into my lineup with ink.
The shooting struggles we have seen from James Harden ($11,000 DK, $11,400 FD) over his last two games are a large reason why I’m not looking to force a star into my lineup tonight. Harden followed a 21-point effort up by scoring just 15 points in his last game and a good portion of his value is coming from the 9.5 assists he is averaging. While he is still capable of putting up a slate changing performance, that upside hasn’t been prevalent so far this season and I’m comfortable going in other directions.
Giannis Antetokounmpo ($10,900 DK, $11,200 FD) has been more consistent with 26.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game while also adding in some 60-plus DFS point outings, but his performance hasn’t consistently stood out as it did in prior seasons and he isn’t an automatic addition to your starting lineup.
The effects of a sprained ankle were clear for Stephen Curry ($10,000 DK, $9,700 FD) as scored just 13 points in his last game against the Clippers while adding just five assists. With 32.4 points per game Curry’s offense is in order but he has been inconsistent and is only averaging 5.6 assists per game as Golden State struggles. If Curry is sidelined tonight that does bring us to some value.
In 15 minutes per game so far Brad Wanamaker ($3,300 DK, $4,000 FD) has failed to distinguish himself with just 4.2 points and 2.2 assists per game but if he moves into the starting lineup he is worth a dart throw at that price. We can also take a look at who will fill Curry’s role as a scorer and that brings us to Kelly Oubre ($5,400 DK, $5,300 FD) who has had a slow start to the season. Oubre is averaging 13.4 points per season but he has the potential to score more even if it hasn’t been shown and he scored just eight points in his last game. Prior to that though, Oubre had scored 17 and 18 points respectively.
Based on talent and what we have seen in the past I want to take a shot on Draymond Green($5,100 DK, $5,100 FD) but his performance simply hasn’t warranted it. Green did play a season high 31 minutes in his last game but he scored just four points although his six rebounds and six assists made it a solid DFS day. I’m just waiting for Green to hit double digits in points scored and a GPP lineup tonight is a fine place to do it.
In a game that is expected to have a lot of offense (over/under of 226.50) Kyle Lowry ($7,900 DK, $7,700 FD) presents as an interesting option. Toronto is struggling to find their way to start the season but it hasn’t appeared to have much of a negative impact on Lowry who is averaging 20.4 points with seven rebounds and 6.4 assists per game. Compared to some other options Lowry doesn’t present the same upside, but he has been a consistent performer while leaving some room for upside.
Across the court I’m not concerned that Tyrese Haliburton ($5,400 DK, $5,400 FD) comes off the bench as he is averaging 29 minutes a game including 34 minutes in his last game. The rookie provides firepower off the bench for Sacramento averaging 13.7 points but also contributing four rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals per game to provide a well-rounded stat line. With De’Aaron Fox likely limited by a hamstring injury Haliburton is in even better position tonight.
There projects to be a lot of offense as the Jazz and Bucks face off (230.5 over/under) and Jordan Clarkson ($5,100 DK, $5,300 FD) presents as an interesting option off the bench. When we last saw Clarkson and the Jazz on Tuesday, Clarkson was their leading scorer with 19 points off the bench and he is averaging 14 points per game with just one game that saw him fall short of reaching double figures.
