Depending on how you chose to complete your lineup, either two or three running backs are needed each week. The days of just one running back controlling the backfield are waning but not lost. Securing these running backs will generally prove to be more costly but it is necessary. When working with a salary cap, this can be a real problem. It is also why when a low-priced running back appears to have the role in hand, they generally end up being a highly popular selection. But are they worth it?
That is a question to be answered on a case by case basis in the analysis that follows. The goal here is to look at game flow to ensure that touches will be at a maximum, it is a favorable situation against the opposing defence, and most of all that there is talent and expected fantasy success.
For those who have yet to subscribe, what are you waiting for? Until then you will get one free pick to whet your appetite. There isn’t a plethora of great running back options this week, J.K. Dobbins ($5,300 DK, $5,700 FD) this week. The Ravens have been among the top rushing teams in the league this year, and Dobbins is coming off a 160-yard rushing performance. The Ravens will run the ball and Dobbins will see the ball 10-15 times so there should be an opportunity for him to have a big day.

The rookie trend continues with Jonathan Taylor ($7,400 DK, $8,400 FD). Taylor has been among the best backs in the NFL over the final few weeks of the season, and for how good the Bills defence is, it isn’t special against the run. I look for the Colts to look to expose that and get the ball to Taylor 18-20 times this week.
Alvin Kamara ($6,200 DK, $7,400 FD) has been limited at practice this week with a foot issue, but if he can play, the Saints are going to use him, and when he does play he is among the most reliable backs because of his pass-catching ability. Keep an eye on Kamara’s status, if he is in, you should be considering him in your lineups.
David Montgomery ($6,800 DK, $7,300 FD) in many ways is like a discount Kamara. He has the potential to see 30 touches in the game this weekend, which should give him an opportunity to pass the 100 total yard mark, and get into the end zone.
There is almost no circumstance in which the Titans don’t run Derrick Henry ($9,400 DK, $10,200 FD) early and often. Henry was just the 8th back in NFL history to pass 2000 yards rushing. The Titans will need another big game from Henry to get past the Ravens this week, so look for him to see close to 30 carries this week.
