When we talk about tight ends, upside doesn’t often come to mind. A large part of their value is dependent upon reaching the end zone but they don’t have upside in the way a wide receiver has. Seeing a tight end go for 100-plus yards just isn’t something that will happen often unless you are dealing in the truly elite territory. Fifty yards and a touchdown is a perfectly reasonable expectation from your tight end, and that means your budget should be allocated accordingly. Just make sure you are paying for the production you are getting.
This doesn’t mean you should never look towards the higher end options if the situation dictates or the salary cap allows, but tread carefully here. There is a fine line to walk between risk and reward as you can’t afford to take a zero from a lineup spot. At the same time, you don’t want to spend any more than necessary at the risk of other positions.

Mike Gesicki ($4,200 DK, $5,900 FD) has been a steady source of points week in and week out. This week he gets the Bills who are one of the teams that give up the most fantasy points to tight ends. The last time the Dolphins faced the Bills, Gesicki has eight receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. Don’t be surprised if he has similar success today.

Normally I would say “Always” Travis Kelce ($8,600 DK, $8,800 FD). This week is the obvious exception. The Cheifs are resting Mahomes, and I expect Kelce if he plays, won’t play a lot. Avoid Kelce this week.
Eric Ebron ($4,000 DK, $5,500 FD) gets a nice matchup against the Browns this week. The Browns give up the third most poinst to tight ends on DK, and second most on FD. While the Steelers are resting players, there has been no news as of yet that Ebron will be among those players, which could lead to him being a primary target.
Mark Andrews ($5,800 DK, $7,200 FD) gets another nice matchup going against the Bengals this week. He rarely gives you eye popping numbers, but he is a very consistent source of 50 plus receiving yards and is capable of a touchdown or more each week. I prefer him in cash games because of that consistency. Andrews is priced a little too high for me to really like him too much in GPP.
Another week another player chosen against the Jaguars. Jack Doyle ($3,000 DK, $4,500 FD) has been the primary TE receiving option for the Colts the last few weeks. With the matchup against the Jaguars, and his price, Doyle is a good play in GPP’s this week. The upside is there, as he could find himself catching a couple of touchdowns, and he his cost is near the minimum.
Robert Tonyan ($5,000 DK, $6,300 FD) is our last player this week. Tonyan has been quite consistent this year, and much like Andrews, he is very consistent, and has scored lots of touchdowns this year. The upside isn’t really there, given his lack of 100-yard games. The Bears are a team that gives up lots receiving yards to tight ends, so there should be plenty of opportunity for Tonyan to pass the 50 yard mark and add another touchdown the the ten he has caught already this year.
