Learn From yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The NFL season builds upon itself each week and offers up its share of highs and lows. This is on a cumulative basis but DFS gives us a fresh start each week. The key is to take everything as a learning experience while not overreacting in either direction. We are here to make hoping for tomorrow a little more palatable.
Each week we will take a look at both positive and negative situations that transpired from the week prior and what it means going forward. Let’s keep in mind that this is just the tip of the iceberg and throughout the week we will go into further detail about other players that deserve our attention for the coming slate of games. That is why you need to stick with us throughout the week.
For those who have yet to subscribe, what are you waiting for?
As a preview of what you can expect. In a smaller slate(ten games), we saw a collection of field goals and not much scoring. Justin Herbert threw for 253 yards, and a touchdown, and rushed for another 26 yards, but we didn’t see much from any of the other Chargers this week. The Broncos weren’t much different, with Melvin Gordon rushing for 79 yards, and DaeSean Hamilton caught five passes for 77 yards. All in all none of these outcomes were all that surprising, I did expect more from Austin Ekler who only contributed 68 total yards, but it was the boring game that we expected.
Moving forward the Jets beat a playoff team for the second straight week, beating the Cleveland Covids(sorry, I mean Browns). Baker Mayfield wasn’t terrible when you consider how short on receivers they were, throwing for 285 yards. Austin Hooper as promised had a decent day, catching seven passes for 71 yards. For the Jets, Jamison Crowder caught seven passes for 92 yards and a touchdown and threw for 48 yards and another touchdown. We didn’t see much else from the Jets, as they got the win while putting up just 333 yards of total offence.
Lamar Jackson is rounding into form just in time for the playoffs for the Ravens. Jackson threw for 183 yards, and two touchdowns, and rushed for another 80. Gus Edwards contributed 122 total yards, and J.K. Dobbins rushed for a touchdown for the fifth straight week and had 77 rushing yards as well. In the passing game, Mark Andrews caught six passes for 76 yards and saw eleven total targets. For the Giants, we had Sterling Shepard catch nine balls for 77 yards and a touchdown, but we didn’t get much else from the Giants.
In what proved to be the highest-scoring game of the week, we saw the Texans and the Bengals combine for 68 points and 1028 total yards. Leading the way for the Texans for Deshaun Watson, who threw for 328 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed for 38 yards as well. David Johnsonhad a big day, rushing for 128 yards and a touchdown, and he also caught three passes for eleven more yards and another touchdown. Not to be outdone, Brandin Cooks also caught seven passes for 141 yards and a touchdown as well. We had all three Texans performers last week. For the Bengals, we saw Brandon Allen threw for 371 yards, and two touchdowns, we saw big days from both Bengals running backs with Samaje Perine rush for 95 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and he caught four passes for another 41 yards. Giovani Bernard also rushed for 65 yards and caught seven passes for another 66 yards. Finally, we saw Tee Higgins catch six passes for 99 yards and a touchdown as well.
Another big scoring game(and one we advised you to be on), was Chicago at Jacksonville. The Bears scored 41 points, led by Mitchell Trubisky who had 265 yards passing and two touchdowns, and ten yards rushing and another touchdown. David Montgomery had 95 rushing yards, 26 receiving yards and a touchdown. In the passing game, we saw Allen Robinson catch ten passes for 103 yards, and Jimmy Graham catch four passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns. On the Jaguars side, we didn’t see much excitement, but DJ Chark did 62 receiving yards and a touchdown.
In what might be the biggest surprise of the week, the Chiefs managed to only score 17 points as they edged the Falcons. The Falcons had struggled on defence all year, but Patrick Mahomes threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 21 yards. Travis Kelce also caught seven passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. For the Falcons we saw Matt Ryan throw for 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Calvin Ridley caught five passes for 130 yards.
In Pittsburgh, Ben Roethlisberger found the fountain of youth as he torched the Colts for 342 yards and three touchdowns. His primary targets for the day were JuJu Smith-Schuster who had nine catches for 96 yards and a touchdown, Dionte Johnson who caught eight passes for 75 yards and a touchdown, and Eric Ebron who caught five passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. For the Colts, Jonathan Taylor did much of the damage with 74 rushing yards, and two touchdowns.
We had a predictable boring matchup between Washington and Carolina, but we did see some nice performances. J.D. McKissic had 15 rushing yards, and 77 receiving yards and a touchdown for Washington, Logan Thomas also caught seven passes for 63 yards. For Carolina, Curtis Samuelhad a big day with 52 yards on the ground, and he also caught five passes for 106 yards.
When it comes to the Rams and the Seahawks, I was really wrong on this matchup. I expected a lot more points from these two teams, but that simply didn’t happen. We saw very little offence from either side. Darrell Henderson led the way for the Rams, with 62 yards rushing, Cooper Kupp also caught eight passes for 66 yards. For the Seahawks, Russell Wilson threw for 225 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 9 yards and another touchdown, but that was really it.
In Dallas this week, we got a new episode of the Jalen Hurts show. He threw for 342 yards and a touchdown and ran for another 69 yards, but otherwise, we didn’t see any notable performances from the Eagles aside from Miles Sanders who had 57 rushing yards and a touchdown, and he also caught four passes for 27 yards. For Dallas, everyone seemed to have a big day. Andy Dalton threw for 377 yards and three scores, Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 109 yards, Michael Gallup caught six passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns and Amari Cooper caught four passes for 121 yards.
In the last matchup of the night, we saw the Packers dismantle the Titans at home. Aaron Rodgersthrew for 231 yards, and four touchdowns, Davante Adams had 142 yards receiving, and three touchdowns, but most of the damage came on the ground. AJ Dillon had 124 yards and two touchdowns, and Aaron Jones had 94 yards himself. As for the Titans, Derrick Henry rushed for 98 yards, but we really didn’t see anything exciting from anyone else.
