The wide receiver position is where things could begin to get crazy. Unlike the running back position where there is a clear leader in each backfield, some teams could have three or four viable candidates each week. Of course, there are other teams that barely have any useful options at the position but you can go in multiple directions here. Do you spend up and take the true number one receiver? Or do you go for reliability in volume or touchdown and big-play upside?
Ideally, you would look for a balance of each of those characteristics but how you chose to construct your roster at the other positions will play a role in what direction you ultimately go in. Looking for values, and you will see that some are available, is key here. This is in addition to the standard practices of reviewing past performance, looking at the game script, and digging into the opposing defence among other things. With respect to the opposing defence and one on one matchups against opposing cornerbacks, this is something that will come into clearer focus as the season progresses.

Keenan Allen ($7,700 DK, $8,500 FD) has 50 more targets than the next closest Chargers receiver this season. This should be the week that Allen surpasses the 1000 yard mark for the season, and I expect him to do so in a big way. The Chargers will be facing a Falcons defence that has given up the second-most yards to receivers this season and 11.7 yards per reception. 10 catches and 100+ yards is well in Allen’s wheelhouse this week, as we should see a high scoring game between the Chargers and the Falcons.

As the chaulk pick of the week, D.K. Metcalf ($8,400 DK, $8,600 FD) gets the nod. The Seahawks are facing the second worst pass defense in the league, which means Metcalf is going to get a lot of play. Your decision point is going to determining if you can afford to pay up for him or maybe you will want to think of it as can you afford not to. I think he will be a must in cash games, but I think in GPP, you may be wiser to get a cheaper piece of the Seahawks offence and spend your money differently.
Another player who could see high-ownership this week is Devante Adams ($5,600 DK, $6,000 FD). The allure to Adams is that the Packers have owned the Lions over the years, this year included. Adams also has scored a touchdown in seven straight games. My concern with Adams this week is that the Packers could get up early, and the game script ultimately limits his snaps. He is the most expensive receiver on this slate, and I would say you should use him at your own risk. I feel more comfortable in cash games where I know his ownership could be high, but in gpp, I would rather spend my budget somewhere else.
Marvin Jones Jr. ($5,800 DK, $6,200 FD) with the Lions likely to be down for most of this contest, expect Matthew Stafford to throw lots of passes. Combine that with Kenny Golladay likely being out, and you have another nice opportunity for Jones. Jones was over 100 receiving yards last week, and he has 10 targets or more in three of the last four weeks. Jones is a nice play this week at a mid-range price.
Jamison Crowder ($5,400 DK, $6,600 FD) is another player worth looking at this week. There is only one team in the league that defends the price worse than the Jets, and that is the Seahawks. Crowder has been the primary receiver for Sam Darnold all year, so if anyone on the Jets is going to have a big day, I expect it to be Crowder.
When the Bucs are facing a bottom five pass defense, you’re going to want to takea look at their receivers. With Mike Evans likely being out, Chris Godwin ($6,300 DK, $7,400 FD) is going to be your guy. Godwin has seen an increased target share the last two weeks, and that trend should continue this week as well. Godwin is yet to have a really big game this year, but with this matchup agaisnt the Vikings, this could very well be the week.
Our last receiver of the week is Tyler Lockett ($7,200 DK, $7,900 FD) of the Seahawks. You might be thinking, another Seahawks receiver? It is hard to avoid a team like this when they are playing the a pass defense like the Jets, which brings us to the second selection. We talked earlier about the higher priced option in D.K. Metcalf, but Lockett is worth a look. He comes at a bit of a discount, but Lockett sees slightly more targets, has more receptions, and the same number of touchdowns as Metcalf. Take the discount here in your GPP contests, Lockett doesn’t see as many big plays but he is very consistent.
